Chapter 94: Something Feels Off Here (Please Subscribe)
"Cough, cough, it's fine, it's fine."
Zhao Jie coughed a couple of times and waved his hand dismissively. Angewomon had protected him well just now—aside from breaking out in a cold sweat, he hadn't suffered any physical injury.
"Is that the little crow beast?"
Zhao Jie's gaze also fell upon the massive, pitch-black crow beast stationed at the entrance. Thinking about it, the only creature that matched this great crow beast's lineage was that small crow beast they'd encountered before.
"Caw, caw."
The great crow beast landed on Angewomon's body, its eyes brimming with mockery.
It wasn't afraid of this Perfect-level Angewomon in front of it.
Even if Angewomon was a Perfect-level Digimon, the crow beast itself was only at the Adult level.
"Holy Arrow!"
The Holy Bow appeared in Angewomon's palm. Drawing the bow and loosing the arrow, the projectile shot forth like a golden bolt of lightning from before her.
"Caw, caw..."
Facing the arrow, the great crow beast beat its wings, and countless pitch-black feathers formed a feathered storm that rose to shield it.
Crack!
The golden arrow pierced through the feathered storm, but most of its force was worn away by the storm, leaving insufficient power to pose any real threat to the great crow beast.
Whoosh!
The enormous wings beat, knocking away the arrow Angewomon had fired.
The next instant, the great crow beast sprang up from the ground. The already dim space plunged into complete darkness beneath the cover of its wings.
"Caw, caw..."
Harsh, piercing notes streamed ceaselessly from the great crow beast's beak—this was another of its special moves: Piercing Demon Sound.
It generated intense sonic waves to attack its enemies.
"Tsk."
A contemptuous smile spread across Angewomon's face. Did you think I'm still the same as before?
This kind of attack was something she could now completely ignore.
"Heaven's Charm."
A faint golden radiance emerged from her body. Her wings flapped, and she moved at tremendous speed, appearing before the great crow beast in the blink of an eye.
The great crow beast surged with all its digital energy, dense pitch-black feathers materializing all around Angewomon, cold dark power interlinking.
It looked as though a prison had formed, trapping Angewomon within.
"Feather Storm."
Rumble...
The dense mass of pitch-black feathers erupted in an instant, sweeping toward Angewomon to grind her down.
"Swish!"
One golden Holy Arrow after another pierced out from the feathered storm, shooting toward the great crow beast.
---
"Your aim is off! Take proper aim before you shoot!"
"Get it in your sights. Then just shoot the hell out of it."
Bang! Bang!
Watching Angewomon's attacks continually miss their mark, Zhao Jie grew anxious and kept shouting out commands.
If it had been Agumon, he would certainly have listened to his direction—the two of them had long since built up deep trust.
But Angewomon... well, that was another story.
"Shut up. My aim is perfectly fine. Stop with your pointless meddling."
Bang!
Angewomon flew out from the great crow beast's feathered storm, completely unharmed. She shot Zhao Jie a glance and said irritably.
Your aim is fine?
Zhao Jie looked at the one massive crater after another left behind by Angewomon's arrows and felt speechless inside.
If your aim were really fine, would I have said anything?
Forget it, forget it.
At least she was his partner, and the one he needed to rely on right now. Better not say anything more.
"Heaven's Charm."
Angewomon appeared behind the great crow beast, the pale golden glow across her body converging upon her wings.
As her wings swept down, a ray of pale golden light shot forth.
This strike was launched with incredible speed. The great crow beast, already inferior to Angewomon in every regard, had no time to react. With a booming crash, it was struck by the Heaven's Charm.
Its entire body swayed like a kite with its string cut, plummeting toward the ground.
Bang!
The massive explosion echoed through the cramped space.
"See, I told you my aim was good!"
Angewomon flew back down from the sky, looking at Zhao Jie with smug satisfaction.
I am a noble Celestial Maiden, and you dared to doubt my abilities.
"Yeah, pretty good aim."
Zhao Jie nodded, having no desire whatsoever to argue with the Celestial Maiden in front of him about whether her aim was good or not.
"Let's get out of here quickly."
He glanced at the great crow beast lying on the ground, its condition unknown, then urged in a hurry.
"Swish!"
Angewomon nodded and said no more. She scooped Zhao Jie up once again and sped swiftly toward the exit.
This time, there was no obstruction at the exit. The two of them successfully emerged into the dazzling, brightly lit base, where the brilliant illumination turned the entire experimental facility as bright as day.
"This way—I need to save my Digimon partner."
---
Zhao Jie pointed in a certain direction and said to Angewomon.
At his words, Angewomon's body paused slightly, then she flew low and swiftly weaved her way along the direction Zhao Jie indicated.
"Roar!"
"Roar!"
One agonized cry after another rang out from up ahead, accompanied by a series of ear-splitting thuds.
"That's—Greymon's voice?!"
At the sound, Zhao Jie's expression shifted slightly.
The voice was identical to the Greymon he remembered.
Agumon had awakened?
But that roar... it was...
"Speed up."
An urgent voice came from Zhao Jie's mouth. Sensing her partner's anxiety, Angewomon said nothing and flew even faster.
In under two minutes, they arrived at the laboratory where Agumon had previously been placed.
What came into view was a long-missed Greymon, its body pierced through with one digital chain after another.
At that moment, digital energy was flowing ceaselessly from those chains into the Greymon.
"Greymon!"
The moment Zhao Jie saw that scene, his eyes blazed with fury and he shouted out in rage.
"Oh? You've come?"
The commotion between the two of them was hardly subtle; Zhou Jie had noticed it long before.
Hearing Zhao Jie's cry, he raised his head. His gaze first fell upon Angewomon, and his expression held a hint of surprise.
He hadn't expected that the Gatomon would actually manage to escape—and successfully evolve into a Perfect-level Angewomon at that.
Still, it didn't matter. As long as his masterpiece was complete, it wouldn't matter if there were ten Angewomon—all of them would die here.
"Classmate Zhao Jie, we meet again."
Pushing up the glasses on his nose, Zhou Jie looked at Zhao Jie, who had already been set down on the ground by Angewomon, and a smile spread across his face.
He truly hadn't expected Zhao Jie to catch on, forcing him to resort to crude methods to bring his masterpiece into being.
This didn't conform to the aesthetic he had always pursued.
But for now, there was no other choice.
