Chapter 101: The Di Organization (Please Subscribe)
A scorching light radiated from the Angel Beast, harnessing the power of the sun as its eight wings unfurled behind it, shimmering with a faint golden glow.
Only at this moment did the Angel Beast, gripping the Sacred Bow, truly embody the form of its perfect evolution.
“Whoosh!”
The Sacred Arrow ignited into an intense blaze, transforming with a sharp hiss into a golden lightning bolt that surged toward the Infernal Giant Crow Beast.
“Roar!”
The Infernal Giant Crow Beast beat its wings fiercely, its body engulfed in blazing demonic flames that suddenly intensified. One by one, fiery meteors appeared above the Angel Beast, hurtling downward with a deafening roar.
These fiery meteors were the Infernal Giant Crow Beast’s signature move: the Netherfire Meteor Shower.
“Bang! Bang! Bang!”
The Angel Beast and the Infernal Giant Crow Beast clashed relentlessly, causing the once-thriving trees around them to wither and vanish in the wake of their battle.
Sporadic flames from the Netherfire Meteors ignited the forest, the dark demonic fire difficult to extinguish. In an instant, the area was engulfed in intense heat and swirling smoke.
On the ground, Zhao Jie kept retreating, his eyes fixed unwaveringly on Zhou Jie, who approached wielding a sharp knife.
“I told you not to come closer! We’re all DigiDestined; we should settle this with our Digimon, not like this,” Zhao Jie said, picking up a withered tree root from the ground, feeling a slight calm wash over him.
Raised in a nurturing environment of equality, friendship, kindness, self-improvement, and diligence, Zhao Jie had never even encountered a thief, let alone witnessed someone brandishing a knife with ill intent.
“Heh, do you think this is still a DigiBattle tournament? If I can take you out quickly, why should I bother relying on Digimon to determine the outcome?” Zhou Jie sneered cruelly, his face twisted with disdain. To be seen through by such an inexperienced kid was utterly infuriating.
Zhao Jie thought, Emmm…
He had to admit, Zhou Jie’s logic was sound—so much so that he was at a loss for words.
Come to think of it, it did make sense.
If one could defeat the opponent using their own abilities, why wait for the Digimon to decide the victor?
“Phew…”
Exhaling softly, Zhao Jie felt every muscle in his body tense. This madman truly bore murderous intent toward him.
The sky rumbled continuously, accompanied by the crashing of Sacred Arrows and fiery meteors.
“Why? Why are you doing this?”
Zhao Jie decided to test his skill with words, hoping he might, like a famed orator, persuade someone to abandon their choice to inflict pain on others.
“Heh…”
Zhou Jie sneered again, barely acknowledging Zhao Jie’s words, closing the distance with his gleaming knife.
“Hey, hey! Pay attention to me! This is so awkward, come on!”
“Since you won’t speak, I’ll guess!” Zhao Jie pressed on.
“You hate Digimon, yet you are a DigiDestined. Something must have happened to make you despise Digimon so deeply. Such a profound change surely came from a cataclysmic event.”
As he spoke, Zhao Jie observed Zhou Jie’s expression carefully. When he mentioned the cataclysm, Zhou Jie’s face flickered briefly before returning to normal.
This confirmed that a significant upheaval had indeed shaped his mindset. As for what that upheaval was, it was not hard to guess—only a few possibilities existed.
“A cataclysm worthy of that name must involve someone close to you. Let me guess—your parents were killed by Digimon?”
“No? Then your best friend was killed by Digimon?”
“No? Then there is only one answer left!”
Zhao Jie’s speech quickened, as if only by doing so could he dispel the anxiety gnawing at his heart when facing such a terrifying foe.
At the mention of the single remaining possibility, Zhou Jie’s heart trembled.
“You little pest, buzzing around like a fly, yapping incessantly. Today, I will kill you!”
As he spoke, Zhou Jie quickened his pace, unwilling to let Zhao Jie reveal that final, deepest pain.
“You’re scared, aren’t you? Scared I’ll say it out loud! Hahaha…”
“The more afraid you are, the more I must say it. There’s only one answer: the cataclysm you experienced is connected to the organization you’re involved with!”
Uh…
Zhou Jie’s advancing steps faltered. He hadn’t expected Zhao Jie’s guess to be so on point.
“Looks like I got it right?”
Seeing Zhou Jie pause, Zhao Jie took a few hurried steps back, then stopped and fixed his gaze on the professor he had once thought highly of.
“Hmph. The greatness of Di is beyond your imagination,” Zhou Jie scoffed.
His foot landed on a fist-sized stone. If luck was on his side, he could end this kid quickly.
“So your organization is called Di? Which Di? The ‘Di’ of Emperor or the ‘Di’ of underground?”
Zhao Jie’s mind raced, suddenly recalling an article he’d read in a lab about Digimon and humans, authored by someone named Di.
So Di wasn’t a mere Digimon researcher as he’d thought—it was the name of an organization!
“You want to know, huh?” Zhou Jie smiled slyly, crouching with lightning speed to snatch up the stone beneath his foot.
“Go ask the King of Hell if he’ll tell you!”
Swish!
With that, Zhou Jie hurled the stone forcefully toward Zhao Jie.
Damn! Playing dirty, huh!
At that moment, Zhao Jie’s senses sharpened. The instant Zhou Jie bent down, he braced himself.
Sure enough, a stone flew straight at him.
Zhao Jie dropped to the ground and, clutching a stone himself, flung it back at Zhou Jie’s position.
Bang!
“Ah!”
A sharp scream escaped Zhou Jie as the stone struck his abdomen hard, doubling him over in pain.
“Hah, trying to headshot me, old man’s got some tricks!”
Zhao Jie rose from the ground, scanning for more stones to press the attack but found none.
A twinge of regret flickered in his heart, but Zhou Jie was already clutching his belly, struggling to stand.
Without further hesitation, Zhao Jie sprinted backward.
Now that Zhou Jie was hampered by that sneak attack, if not now, then when?
