Chapter 117: What a Coincidence (Requesting Recommendations)
For most people, the afternoon hours were a mix of pain and pleasure, but for Zhao Jie, they were nothing but pure joy.
As Ji Zhanhui put it, there was simply nothing left for him to teach Zhao Jie regarding Digimon; after all, even his long-time companion, Lizardmon, was no match for Agumon.
Zhao Jie watched with great interest as Agumon wreaked havoc on BlackAgumon’s gaming account. To be fair, BlackAgumon wasn't actually that bad—or was he? Of course, that assessment was only by comparison to Agumon.
At this moment, watching Agumon steer his short-legged character—which had already died over twenty times—straight toward the bottom lane minion wave, completely ignoring his teammates' retreat signals, Zhao Jie couldn't help but feel sorry for those teammates. Who could have guessed that their partner in the game was an actual Digimon?
"Master, you have an incoming call. Shall I connect it?"
His Digivice flew out of his pocket and hovered in front of him, displaying a string of numbers. Zhao Jie recognized the caller immediately: Director Zheng from the admissions office of Xiangnan University.
"Hello, Director Zheng? Is there something you need?"
"Something? Of course there’s something, and it’s a big one! Where are you right now? I’m coming to find you."
On the other end of the line, Zheng Qilin spoke while his eyes constantly scanned his surroundings. Just a moment ago, he had spotted an old acquaintance: Liu Feifei from Magic City University. She was the head of their admissions office, and her presence here in Wuling City could only mean one thing—she was poaching talent! And in all of Wuling City, there was only one person worth her time: Zhao Jie.
"Me? I'm at school. Can we talk after I finish classes?" Zhao Jie asked casually.
"School? You’ve already been granted early admission, why are you still in class? Wuling City No. 1 High School, right? Wait there, I’m coming to get you!"
Zheng Qilin hung up without giving Zhao Jie a chance to refuse. The situation was critical; he needed to see the boy immediately to feel secure, or he might actually get beaten to the punch. Especially by Liu Feifei from Magic City University—a former national tournament champion, talented, and stunningly beautiful. A young man like Zhao Jie could easily be swayed by her charms and end up at Magic City University before he even knew what hit him. He had underestimated her last year, and reality had dealt him a harsh lesson.
"Oh, Director Zheng, long time no see. Where are you rushing off to?"
A gentle female voice sounded from behind him, causing Zheng Qilin to freeze mid-step. He turned around to see a beautiful face beaming at him, her dark eyes crinkling into crescents. She looked radiant, though at that moment, Zheng Qilin really wanted to punch that smiling face.
"Going to see Zhao Jie, aren't you? Don't deny it; I heard every word when you were on the phone."
"Director Zheng, you wouldn't mind if I tagged along, would you?"
*I do mind! I mind very much!* Zheng Qilin thought to himself. But since she had already caught him, his objections were meaningless. He didn't believe for a second that she would just walk away if he said no.
"Fine, let's go together!" Zheng Qilin sighed, feeling defeated. What a mess.
"Great, let's hurry! I saw Wang Chongyang this morning; we can't let him get there first." Liu Feifei urged him on.
"Little Liu, it's not very polite to talk about people behind their backs!"
The newcomer looked to be in his twenties, wearing a black short-sleeved shirt embroidered with a lamb. He wore a smile, looking at Liu Feifei with amusement. It was Wang Chongyang.
Liu Feifei: "..." How did he appear out of nowhere like a ghost?
"I arrived before you did. I 'happened' to run into Brother Zheng this morning, and I've been strolling around with him ever since. It seems he finally couldn't hold back anymore," Wang Chongyang explained with a grin.
*Happened to run into him?* Who would believe that? Zheng Qilin and Liu Feifei both thought. But now, both Wang Chongyang and Liu Feifei had a small doubt: *Isn't this a top-secret tip that only I was supposed to know? How does this guy know about it too?*
*Damn it, who told them I was in Wuling City?* Zheng Qilin screamed internally. He had flown in from Sha City the day he made the call, arriving after eight in the evening. He had planned to talk to Zhao Jie the next day to win him over. He never expected to run into Lei Guangyao from Jinling University the moment he stepped out of his hotel. After carefully avoiding him, he received a call from Elder Xie of Chang'an University, who kept fishing for his location.
After hanging up, he knew something was wrong. Shortly after leaving his hotel, he "ran into" Wang Chongyang of Imperial Capital University. Now, he had "run into" Liu Feifei of Magic City University. He refused to believe this was all a coincidence.
"Alright, alright, let the three of us go together. Old Zheng, hurry up and take us there," Wang Chongyang said as he hailed a taxi, shoving Zheng Qilin into the backseat before he and Liu Feifei climbed in.
"To Wuling City No. 1 High School!" Zheng Qilin said helplessly under the gazes of Liu Feifei and Wang Chongyang.
"You got it!" the driver replied, though his eyes kept darting toward the three passengers in the mirror. They looked familiar—very familiar. He didn't recognize the men, but he felt he had seen that woman somewhere before.
When the three stepped out of the taxi, they were petrified on the spot.
"Oh? Isn't it Little Zheng, Little Wang, and Little Liu? You're a bit slow! That’s not very respectful to the young man!" A middle-aged man with a slicked-back hairstyle stood there, grinning at them.
"Heh... heh..."
At that moment, Wang Chongyang and Liu Feifei finally understood the miserable feeling Zheng Qilin had experienced earlier.
"Uncle Lei, how did you find this place?" Zheng Qilin glanced at the two beside him and forced a smile. Dealing with one or two people was no different than dealing with a whole crowd. Now, he just hoped Zhao Jie was strong-willed enough not to be swayed by everyone else's sugar-coated bullets.
