Chapter 128: It Turns Out This Is Someone None of Us Can Afford to Offend (Third Installment)
The bewilderment on Gu Quanwei's face vanished quickly. In his memory, their student council president was always cheerful and had never lost his temper with anyone. Yet today, just moments ago, their president had actually cursed at him.
"President Gu, the expulsion notice has arrived!" At that moment, a student council member appeared before them, holding a notice already stamped with an official seal.
"Great!" Du Sheng, failing to notice the shift in Gu Quanwei's expression, reached out triumphantly to take the expulsion notice.
"Wait..." Gu Quanwei snapped out of his daze and intercepted Du Sheng before he could take the document. "Who exactly are you?" This was the first time Gu Quanwei had looked at Zhao Jie directly; previously, he hadn't even wanted to acknowledge him. The fact that he could provoke such an emotional reaction from their student council president was proof enough that the person before him was no ordinary individual.
"Heh..." Zhao Jie, no longer caring to pay him any mind, kept his gaze fixed on Du Sheng’s hand. "Come, give me the expulsion notice." He beckoned to Du Sheng, wearing a mirthless smile; although he was smiling, the aura emanating from him was chillingly cold.
"You!"
"Hold on!" Gu Quanwei stopped Du Sheng again as he tried to step forward. Du Sheng’s face flashed with shock; from Gu Quanwei’s reaction, he too realized something was amiss.
"Zhuge Ke, do you know him?" Gu Quanwei asked, looking at Zhao Jie, who sat atop his Greymon. He tried to soften his tone, smiling at Zhao Jie as if he weren't the same person who had just refused to give him the time of day.
"Don't know him. I said, since the notice is here, give it to me. I’m waiting to catch a flight to Magic City!" Zhao Jie looked impatiently at the fickle President Gu.
"What are you acting so arrogant for? If you're so capable, go study at Magic City University then!" Du Zhongping chimed in, disgruntled.
"Screech!"
Just as Gu Quanwei was about to speak again, a piercing eagle cry tore through the sky. Everyone looked up to see a magnificent giant eagle, over four meters long and covered in deep azure feathers, rapidly descending toward the school grounds.
Whoosh! The massive air currents shifted violently as the giant eagle flew, and a powerful pressure radiated from the Wind Eagle beast.
"This is..."
"Isn't that Director Zheng? Why is he here?"
Swish! The giant Wind Eagle landed, and Zheng Qilin leaped from its back. Seeing that Zhao Jie was still on campus, he let out a long sigh of relief; he had been genuinely afraid the boy might have already left. Young people today had tempers like powder kegs, and with a genius like this, if word got out, all those schools that had previously withdrawn their offers would likely arrive in Sha City today to snatch him away.
"Come, give me the withdrawal notice!" Zhao Jie, still seated on the Greymon, didn't even look at Zheng Qilin; he gestured for Gatomon to retrieve the document.
What?! A withdrawal notice? Zheng Qilin’s face changed instantly. Before Gatomon could move, he stormed over to Gu Quanwei and the others. "What right do you have to expel a student? On what grounds? Since when does the student council have such authority?" A barrage of questions erupted from him, his angry eyes sweeping over Gu Quanwei and his group. He had worked so hard to secure a genius student, and here were these people, doing nothing to bring glory to the school, trying to drive him away! Zheng Qilin felt like skinning them alive.
"Director Zheng, please, let me explain. This person was fighting in the school cafeteria without permission, causing a terrible influence on our school. If we don't expel someone like this, it will ruin the atmosphere of Xiangda University!" Du Sheng said fawningly, repeating the same lines he had used on Gu Quanwei.
"Heh..." Zheng Qilin sneered. He might not have known the root cause of the incident, but he had heard everything that followed clearly. "Du Sheng, is it?" Zheng Qilin’s anger began to subside; things had reached a point where, if he wanted to keep a genius like Zhao Jie, the handling of this matter had to satisfy him.
"Yes, Director Zheng," Du Sheng nodded, looking at Zheng Qilin with expectation. Beside him, Gu Quanwei subtly distanced himself, sensing that something was very wrong. First, a call from their student council president, Zhuge Ke, and now the appearance of Director Zheng, a former national champion. All of this pointed to the fact that the guy opposite them was far from ordinary.
"Very well. From this moment on, you are no longer a member of the school team. Furthermore, I, representing this school, am officially expelling you!" Zheng Qilin deliberately raised his voice so that everyone nearby could hear him.
"What?!" The smile on Du Sheng’s face froze. He looked at Zheng Qilin, bewildered. He was a substitute on the school team, and today he might even have become a starter—yet, in this instant, he heard he was being expelled?
"Director Zheng, you must be joking, right? My brother’s White Lion beast has the potential of a national champion! You’re going to expel my brother for the sake of a piece of trash?" Du Zhongping said, looking at Zheng Qilin in disbelief.
Trash? If someone who raised a Digimon to the Ultimate level in just a year was trash, then what did that make them? Worse than trash? To think that White Lion beast could win a national championship—the person who said that clearly had something wrong with their brain.
"Why?" After a brief moment of shock, Du Sheng’s expression returned to normal, his eyes locked onto Zheng Qilin.
"Don't you know the answer yourself?" Zheng Qilin snatched the expulsion notice away, glanced at the text with a twitching face, and tore the document to shreds in front of everyone.
Answer? Du Sheng looked at Zhao Jie sitting on the Greymon, then back at Gu Quanwei, who was playing dumb.
"I am a substitute on the school team, and I have the confidence to become a starting member this year. In terms of value, I am above him. By what right do you expel me?" Du Sheng demanded defiantly.
"By the right that I am Zheng Qilin! And have you said enough? If you're done, get out! Our school doesn't need students like you, who can't even tell right from wrong, to bring us glory!"
Hiss! A massive storm surged in Gu Quanwei’s heart. He cast a discreet glance at Zhao Jie, who was still sitting on the Greymon. *I completely misjudged him!!* For this person, Director Zheng was willing to expel a school team substitute. It turned out this was someone none of them could afford to provoke!
