Chapter 126: The Student Council's Decision
The Light Fruit can enhance the power of light within a Digimon, with double the effect on holy-type Digimon. At this moment, Zhao Jie looked at Gatomon, unable to discern in what way Gatomon had grown stronger since their time at the experimental base.
"Thud!"
"Stop."
Greymon had intended to help, but Zhao Jie’s voice rang out just in time.
"Huh?"
Greymon looked at Zhao Jie in confusion, not understanding why he was being held back from assisting Gatomon.
"Just wait."
Zhao Jie did not reveal his intentions, choosing instead to watch the battle between Gatomon and the Leomon in silence.
"Humph..."
After failing to secure a victory for some time, Du Sheng’s expression grew dark. As a substitute member of the school team, he was slated to participate in the national tournament this December. Yet, at the same level, his Leomon could not even take down a Gatomon—and this Gatomon belonged to a mere freshman. As time passed, mocking whispers began to emerge from the crowd, making him increasingly agitated.
"Fist of the Beast King!"
Frustrated by the prolonged struggle, the Leomon grew impatient. It clenched its left fist, and the surrounding air currents coalesced into a visible vortex, from which a formidable power emanated. Compared to the previous Leomon they had encountered, this one’s signature move was several grades stronger. Could Gatomon withstand such a blow?
The answer was, of course, no! But that did not mean Gatomon was defeated; utilizing its inherent agility, it dodged the punch. No matter how powerful an attack might be, if it doesn't land, it is merely a waste of energy.
Swish! Swish!
Gatomon moved as nimbly as a butterfly, weaving around the Leomon like an assassin dancing on the edge of a blade.
"So annoying!"
The more it attacked, the more irritable the Leomon became. This Gatomon was like an impossible-to-swat mosquito, buzzing incessantly around it.
"Roar!"
A storm of attacks erupted from its palms, desperate to swat Gatomon away.
"The Vice President of the Student Union is here!"
It was unclear whose voice sounded first, but all eyes turned toward a young man wearing a white shirt. It was Gu Quanwei, Vice President of the Student Union and a substitute for the Xiangda school team.
"What is going on here?"
Upon arriving and seeing Gatomon locked in battle with the Leomon, he paused, then began to reprimand them. "Everyone, stop!"
Hearing his command, Du Sheng signaled for his Leomon to retreat, and Zhao Jie followed suit, calling Gatomon back to his side. With his arms crossed, Zhao Jie waited to see how this Vice President would handle the situation.
"Vice President Gu." Du Sheng walked over to Gu Quanwei and offered a slight nod. As fellow substitutes on the school team, they were quite familiar with each other.
"Nonsense. Today is freshman orientation. You start fighting here—have you considered the damage to the school's reputation?" Although his words sounded impartial, his eyes remained fixed on Zhao Jie throughout, as if to imply that all of this was Zhao Jie’s fault and that he was the one damaging the school’s reputation.
"Yes, yes, Vice President Gu. I just thought this freshman was being too arrogant, so I wanted to teach him a lesson. It was my lack of consideration." Du Sheng nodded repeatedly, framing the incident entirely around Zhao Jie’s alleged arrogance and omitting everything else.
"Oh? How arrogant? We at Xiangda do not accept students who do not know how to respect their seniors." Gu Quanwei turned to look at Du Sheng. Though they hadn't coordinated beforehand, they were acting perfectly in sync.
"Look, Vice President Gu, that Leomon was beaten so badly by his two Digimon that it couldn't even stand. And this is just the first day of freshman registration! If this isn't dealt with severely, what will happen in the future?" Du Sheng pointed to the Leomon still lying motionless on the ground.
"You have a point; it must be handled severely."
The two continued to play off one another, not even bothering to question Zhao Jie. Zhao Jie laughed as he listened. It was truly disgraceful that such people could occupy positions of power in the Student Union at Xiangda. He remained silent, watching them quietly, curious to see what kind of punishment they would devise for him.
"In your opinion, how should this be handled?" Gu Quanwei feigned deep thought before asking for Du Sheng’s opinion.
"Expel him. If we, Xiangda, accept such a black sheep, it’s like a single rat dropping ruining an entire pot of soup."
Expel him?
Hearing this, Gu Quanwei frowned. He had only intended to save some face for his teammate, but he hadn't expected such a drastic demand. This was essentially ruining someone's future!
"I owe you a favor." The words were whispered by Du Sheng. He knew that expelling someone, even for a Student Union Vice President, was difficult—but not impossible.
"Very well." After a moment of thought, Gu Quanwei nodded. It wasn't his future being ruined, and he could gain a favor from an elite Digimon tamer of the same standing. Why not?
"That student, from this moment on, you are no longer a student of Xiangda. In the name of the Student Union Vice President, I am expelling you!"
A wave of shock rippled through the crowd. No one expected them to actually dare to expel someone. Many upperclassmen felt a sudden, chilling sense of unease. Since when did a student have the authority to expel another? A feeling of shared vulnerability took hold.
"Furthermore, considering the extensive damage you caused in the cafeteria and the assault on a Xiangda student’s Digimon, I am fining you 50,000 as a penalty on behalf of the school!" Gu Quanwei glanced at Zhao Jie indifferently. To have contracted two Digimon made him a rare talent, but unfortunately, he had offended the wrong person in Du Sheng.
"Good. Very good." Zhao Jie laughed, his smile brilliant. However, this brightness made the surrounding students shudder; if it was him today, would it be them tomorrow?
"Brother Zheng, you heard all of that clearly, right? I turned down the capital and Shanghai to come to Xiangda, and I didn't even make it through my first day before being expelled. Since that's the case, I’ll be taking my leave!"
Ever since Gu Quanwei had arrived, Zhao Jie had used his Digimon phone to call Zheng Qilin. Everything that had just transpired had been heard clearly by the Director of the Admissions Office at Xiangnan University.
