Chapter 57: The Top Fighter of Wuling (Third Update)
Last night, Teacher Yu announced this matter in front of everyone. So, starting from this morning, all the Digimon had to gather in the training room on the first floor, with Agumon taking over the role previously held by the Wildman Beast, managing the other Digimon.
"Agumon, I'm warning you—don’t mess around. If I find out you’re up to anything, your meal allowance will be in jeopardy, you hear me?"
Looking at Agumon in front of him, Zhao Jie couldn’t help but feel uneasy.
Agumon replied, "Don’t worry, don’t worry, I won’t do anything rash."
Agumon agreed readily, standing at the door to see Zhao Jie off, waving his claws energetically every time Zhao Jie looked back.
Ding, ding, ding—
The class bell rang, and soon the training room was left with only the Digimon.
Most of them had already evolved to their mature forms, though a few were still in their baby stages. Clearing his throat, Agumon addressed the group.
"Hello, everyone! I am Agumon, the embodiment of wisdom and charm. You may call me Wuling’s Number One!"
Silence. Agumon’s words did not receive the enthusiastic response he had imagined.
"Ahem, in the spirit of responsibility, I’ve decided to put you all through special training!"
He coughed awkwardly, then glanced at Bitmon among the crowd.
"Big Brother!"
Bitmon, with his special little backpack, scampered over to Agumon, fawning as he unzipped his bag.
"Big Brother, I get it, I get it! I’ve brought you your favorite crispy noodles as a token of my respect!"
Agumon: ...
Other Digimon: ...
"Silence! I, Agumon, am upright and above reproach. I cannot accept your bribe. See this? This is a cell phone—my very own. I can order whatever I want with it. Keep your little schemes to yourself!"
Agumon shook the phone in his hand, casting a disdainful glance at Bitmon.
My foolish little brother, I’ve grown up. I’m no longer the one you could buy off with a few bags of crispy noodles.
"Why should we listen to you?"
"Yeah, why should we?"
"It was because of that Wildman Beast before, but now that he’s gone, who’s afraid of you?"
Some Digimon started grumbling, and soon many of the mature Digimon joined in. They were all at the same level—who was afraid of whom?
A rebellion was brewing.
Bitmon’s eyes sparkled. Wasn't this the perfect moment to prove his loyalty?
"Big Brother, they dare defy you! Let me teach them a lesson for you!"
Bitmon stood by Agumon’s side, feigning outrage.
"Alright, go discipline them," Agumon replied without hesitation.
Bitmon hadn’t expected Agumon to take him seriously. On the other side were dozens of mature Digimon—sending him was like sending him to the slaughter.
"Big Brother, I suddenly have a stomachache. You should handle it yourself; I’ll cheer you on!"
Rolling his eyes, Bitmon flopped onto the ground.
Useless!
Agumon glanced at him, inwardly disappointed. If it weren’t for Liu Cheng’s previous offerings of good food, this hanger-on would have been kicked out long ago.
"If you’re not convinced, let’s settle it with a game. If you beat me, I won’t bother with you."
"You said it! I, Big-Eared Beast, challenge you first!"
"I, Big-Rock Beast, am second!"
...
Half an hour later, most of the Digimon were piled together in the center of the training field, only a few who hadn’t battled yet remaining on the sidelines.
"Bitmon, I despise you—how could you be Agumon’s lackey!"
One of the defeated Gazimon shouted at Bitmon.
"Yeah, Bitmon, we despise you!"
Bitmon lay comfortably in the sand, lazily rolling over at their words.
"Despising me won’t help you. Soon, you might even envy me."
The other Digimon: ...
...
"Now, I’m going to give you all special training. Any objections?"
Agumon stood proudly before the group. It was a shame the Wildman Beast was gone—otherwise, this moment would be perfect.
"No," the Digimon replied, as wilted as eggplants after a frost, their voices weak.
The gap was too great. Compared to Agumon, they were utterly disheartened.
"Don’t worry. After my training, you’ll be as powerful as I am. Cheer up—our special training begins now."
Hearing that Agumon could make them as strong as he was, some Digimon reluctantly perked up. If it was true, perhaps this training wouldn’t be so bad.
"First, we need a group song!"
A group song?!
Don’t think we’re country bumpkins—we know what a song is!
"Any objections?"
At the mention of a group song, the Digimon stirred restlessly, but Agumon’s commanding tone quickly quieted them.
"Good!" Agumon nodded in satisfaction. "This is just the beginning. The group song’s purpose is to set up your rankings! Of course, I’ll be ranked first, but the rest will depend on your performance!"
Ranking!
The word alone made the previously reluctant Digimon excited.
"As long as I’m strong enough, can I be second?" asked Big-Eared Beast, eyes shining.
"Of course! This ranking depends on your effort. Even my best friend has to participate!"
Great!
The Digimon looked at Bitmon with excitement. He had just mocked them by relying on his connections, but now it was time for them to rise up and sing a new tune.
"Number One, let’s start training! I can’t wait!"
"Me too!"
Bitmon watched the eager Digimon, retreating a step in confusion. Things seemed to be spiraling out of his control.
There were actually contenders for his role as the most loyal follower!
Unforgivable!
Fine then, special training it is. He would show them that his position as Agumon’s right-hand Digimon was untouchable.
"Come, everyone, follow my lead. After an hour, whoever learns best will rank highest!"
Agumon was elated. When he was still a little Rolling Ball Beast, he had dreamed of this moment. Now, at last, his small dream was about to come true.
PS: Can you guess which song Agumon will pick as the group song? Also, seeing that some asked about a group chat, I’ll go ahead and create one. Penguin Chat Group: 1106887132. Everyone is welcome to join and discuss the story. Please recommend and bookmark as well!
