Chapter Ninety-Two: The Plane Battlefield
After Qian Kun and the elder Gaia left the Heavenly Sacrificial Mountain Range, they headed straight for the Star Mist Sea. To reach the plane prison, one had to go to the Purgatory of Hell, and the Purgatory of Hell lay deep within the vast Star Mist Sea.
On the way, they made a stop at Milo Island to visit Mosi. At Qian Kun's urging and invitation, Mosi also began to feel tempted by the idea of going to the plane battlefield. Thus, the two-man journey became a three-man journey.
With Mosi, a Purgatory Commander, leading the way, Qian Kun quickly came to understand the situation in Purgatory through Mosi's introduction after they arrived.
After staying in Purgatory for a while, Qian Kun chose to challenge one of the Purgatory Commanders, defeated him, and became the new Purgatory Commander. Only then did he, together with Mosi and Gaia, pass through the teleportation array in Purgatory and arrive at the plane battlefield, where their expedition truly began.
At first, the three of them moved together. But most of the powerful beings on the plane battlefield knew Mosi and were well aware of how formidable he was, so whenever they saw him, they fled in terror long before anything could happen. As a result, more than ten years passed in the blink of an eye, yet the three of them had not managed to kill even a single strong opponent.
Somewhat frustrated, Qian Kun then suggested that they split up: he and Gaia would act together, while Mosi would operate alone, keeping some distance between them. If battle arose, they would immediately rendezvous and join forces.
The idea proved excellent. Only a few days after they separated, Qian Kun and Gaia encountered a strong opponent who took the initiative to ambush and kill them. Clearly, these two unfamiliar faces had been regarded by the battlefield's experts as easy targets to bully.
Yet that was precisely Qian Kun's aim. Without luring the snake out of its hole in this way, how would they ever kill an enemy expert and earn ten badges to exchange for a sovereign artifact?
As for the sovereign artifact, Qian Kun did not care all that much. But if he did not need it, he could always give it to Gaia instead. Although Gaia's strength was not especially outstanding among Shura-level experts, with a material-defense sovereign artifact and then a soul-defense sovereign artifact as well, even a consummate highgod would be unable to kill her. Was not the allure of the plane battlefield precisely the hope of obtaining sovereign artifacts?
"Kill!"
With a low, cold shout, the blurred figure radiating a misty black light charged first at Qian Kun.
At the same time, another cold and beautiful woman in white, graceful as a celestial maiden, attacked from the other side. A misty white light shone from her body, lending her an even more sacred air. Yet she showed him no mercy whatsoever, directly using the power of the Sovereign of Fate to unleash a soul attack. A phantom white sword-image shot toward Gaia.
Gaia, having no time at all to dodge that terrifying soul attack, decisively used a drop of water-element sovereign power.
With a thunderous boom, on the other side, the instant the black blurred figure exchanged blows with Qian Kun, it was sent flying backward by a single punch.
"He did not even use sovereign power, and he still managed to force me back. How can he be this strong?" The black-robed, icy young man steadied himself with some difficulty, staring in disbelief at Qian Kun. Then, clenching his teeth, he sent a message to the white-robed woman: "The opponent is too strong, Elisa. Run!"
"Trying to run? Not so easy."
With a cold laugh, Qian Kun's figure blurred as he pursued the black-robed young man. His speed was terrifyingly fast.
In the blink of an eye, Qian Kun had already reached him. The black-robed young man could only grit his teeth and flip his hand to produce a black short sword, stabbing it toward Qian Kun. The surrounding space twisted at once, tiny cracks appearing as if the air itself were tearing apart.
With a sharp metallic clang, Qian Kun's whole body shuddered and was blasted backward. Glancing at the blood on the back of his hand, he then looked at the black-robed young man, who had also been sent flying, and narrowed his eyes slightly at the black short sword in the man's hand.
"A sovereign artifact?"
That black-robed young man was also cautious. Earlier, when he had attacked, he had only meant to probe Qian Kun and had not used his sovereign artifact at all. But after seeing Qian Kun's true strength, he could no longer hide his abilities if he wanted to escape.
Using the recoil from the clash just now, the black-robed young man, who had been sent flying, fled even faster into the distance.
Qian Kun glanced at Gaia and saw that she had withstood the white-robed woman's soul attack and was not in any immediate danger. Then, with a shift of thought, he used a drop of sovereign power. His speed abruptly surged as he chased after the black-robed man.
In just a few breaths, Qian Kun had caught up to the black-robed young man and blocked his path.
"Wind-element sovereign power?" The black-robed young man's face darkened. Seeing Qian Kun blur forward like a gust of wind, he could only grit his teeth and meet him head-on.
This time, Qian Kun struck with both fists, instantly leaving the black-robed young man unable to defend himself and opening his guard wide. At the same moment, he drove out a kick infused with the profundity of the Earth Laws, causing the lower half of the black-robed young man's body to tremble violently as if it were about to collapse.
Qian Kun then pressed in again and hammered his fist into the black short sword in the man's hand, sending the sovereign artifact flying from his grasp. The bloodstained fist followed immediately after, smashing into the black-robed young man's head and exploding it at once.
"Hm?"
Just after killing the black-robed young man, Qian Kun clearly sensed violent fluctuations of energy from the direction where Gaia was fighting. Frowning, he waved a hand to collect the golden badge left behind by the dead man, then hurried back at once.
When he returned, the white-robed woman was already gone. Only Mosi and Gaia remained standing in the midst of a wrecked stretch of wasteland.
"What happened? Mosi, you let that woman escape?" Qian Kun asked as he landed, his brow slightly furrowed.
Mosi gave a helpless, bitter smile. "She had a material-defense sovereign artifact, and my destruction attacks could not do anything to her. She cultivates the Laws of Fate, so her soul power is extremely strong. Even my strongest soul attack could not kill her, and in the end she escaped."
"Qian Kun, how did it go on your side? Did you kill that black-robed man?" Gaia could not help asking at once.
Qian Kun nodded slightly. "He had an attack-type sovereign artifact, but I still killed him. I just used up a drop of wind-element sovereign power to catch him."
"What's a single drop of sovereign power if you can kill an enemy commander?" Mosi said with a laugh, waving a hand. "Once you're on the plane battlefield, you can't afford to be stingy with sovereign power. The experts here basically all use sovereign power once a fight turns serious. After all, anyone who can come here is a Shura-level expert, and obtaining sovereign power is not difficult. If you refuse to use it in battle and your opponent does, you'll still have to use yours in the end."
"Fair enough." Qian Kun nodded lightly, then flipped his hand and took out the golden badge, tossing it in his palm with a smile. "We've been on the plane battlefield for more than ten years at last, and we've finally reaped some reward."
Mosi smiled. "From here on, we'll gain even more. Qian Kun, if the two of us join hands, then apart from consummate highgods, there is nothing on this plane battlefield worth fearing. However, the commander-level experts who come here generally all have sovereign artifacts in hand. In particular, if they have a material-defense sovereign artifact and a soul-defense sovereign artifact to make up for their weaknesses, then killing one commander is no easy matter. If we run into someone who possesses both a material-defense sovereign artifact and a soul-defense sovereign artifact, then there is no point even fighting."
"When you meet an indestructible turtle shell like that, it really is annoying," Qian Kun said with a smile. "But such experts are ultimately only a tiny minority. Surely we won't be so unlucky as to run into one right away? And as for commander-level experts who only have material-defense and soul-defense sovereign artifacts, most of them should not be able to withstand our material and soul attacks."
Gaia could not help rolling her eyes at Qian Kun. "Enough, Qian Kun. There is no need for you to praise yourself like that."
"Haha. Whether it's boasting or not, just wait until I kill a few more commander-level experts for you to see, and you'll know," Qian Kun said with a hearty laugh.
