Chapter 87: The Traitor
Yet, the countless green sparks continued to scatter rapidly in all directions. Many people couldn't dodge in time and were struck by the green lights, which penetrated their bodies, causing them to lose consciousness and tumble from midair.
“Delia, watch out!” Bebe urgently pushed Delia aside, but several green sparks plunged straight into Bebe's body.
“Wade!” Delia, disregarding her own safety, shielded Wade with her entire body. Two green sparks were about to reach her when, suddenly, a hand appeared, grabbing them as if they were fireflies, letting them sink into its palm.
Bebe, standing nearby, stared in astonishment at the figure who had appeared beside Delia. “Lord Qian Kun?”
“Haha, Bebe, it's been a long time!” Qian Kun laughed heartily, then said, “We'll chat later—let me help Linley first.”
As he spoke, Qian Kun's figure flickered and appeared beside Tamp, who was shrouded in black light. He casually struck Tamp's head with a light slap, causing it to tremble and vanish into nothingness. Tamp's body quickly disintegrated, leaving only a divine spark to fall.
“Brother Qian Kun?” Linley, also stunned, looked at Qian Kun, clearly awed by his power.
“Run!” The other four elders who had joined Tamp in besieging Linley were terrified; they didn't even dare to fight and scattered, trying to flee. But could they escape? Puslo and Tevila, nearby, watched them like hungry wolves.
Puslo hurled his long spike and easily killed one of them, then the spike arced through the air toward another.
Taking advantage of his remaining divine power, Tevila decisively pursued and killed one more.
As for the last, who seemed about to escape, Qian Kun impatiently glared at Linley, “Why are you looking at me? Go after him!”
“Oh…” Linley, startled into action, responded and raced off. Moments later, accompanied by a distant, anguished scream and a violent energy explosion, Linley quickly returned.
Seeing Linley’s wounds had almost healed, Qian Kun smiled, “Linley, was that thrilling enough for you? The Eight Great Families went through a lot of trouble to kill you—just a bit more and you’d be finished!”
“Brother Qian Kun, please don’t tease me. If you hadn’t arrived so suddenly, and if Puslo hadn’t helped, I really might have been killed by them,” Linley shook his head with a rueful smile, still somewhat shaken.
Puslo, meanwhile, looked at Qian Kun with burning curiosity. “Qian Kun? Are you the one who killed Reynolds?”
“Why, do you want to spar with me?” Qian Kun turned and smiled at Puslo.
Seeing the two about to start a fight, Linley hurried forward, “Brother Qian Kun, Puslo, this isn’t the place for a duel. Let’s leave first—once we return to the Four Divine Beasts clan, you’ll have plenty of chances to spar!”
“Alright, let’s head back then! By the way, many of your companions have been struck by Elder Chabu’s attack. Get them onto the metal lifeform quickly. While there’s still time, I’ll help save them. If you wait too long, it’ll be much harder to save them,” Qian Kun glanced at the unconscious members of the Azure Dragon clan.
Linley was delighted and quickly called Elder Tevila and the other unharmed clan members. They brought out a metal lifeform and carried the unconscious ones aboard. As they set off for the Four Divine Beasts clan, Qian Kun began healing the fallen Azure Dragon clan members one by one.
Though Qian Kun hadn’t yet reached the level of a Highgod in matters of life, his research was profound. With his powerful soul as support, healing these people was no challenge. It only took half a day to cure everyone. The green lights weren’t particularly lethal; they simply assimilated soul energy into their own. The more time passed, the more assimilation occurred, making later rescue far harder.
Afterward, their journey was peaceful. About two months later, the group finally returned to the Heaven Sacrifice Mountains.
The Azure Dragon clan had already received word in advance. As soon as Linley and the others arrived, they were summoned by Gaisreson.
Qian Kun and Puslo accompanied Linley to the residence of Gaisreson, the clan leader. Other elders of the Azure Dragon clan were also present.
“Linley, what happened? Why did eight elders from the opposing side join forces to ambush you?” Gaisreson asked sternly.
Puslo answered boldly, “Gaisreson, what’s so puzzling? Obviously, your Azure Dragon clan has a traitor who leaked Linley’s trip to Mill City. Otherwise, how could the Eight Great Families manage to send eight elders to ambush him so precisely?”
The elders were shocked by Puslo’s words. The Third Elder, Furlhan, was so startled his pores stood on end and his heart clenched painfully.
“No worries, there’s absolutely no problem. Other than myself, no one knows I informed the Eight Great Families. If I don’t confess, who would suspect? Even if Linley suspects, who has proof?” Furlhan quickly regained his composure.
Gaisreson frowned and looked at Puslo. “Puslo, you say we have a traitor? Do you have evidence? If not, you shouldn’t make such accusations.”
“Gaisreson, how is Puslo making wild accusations?” Qian Kun said with a calm smile. “Linley told me he suspects an elder named Furlhan leaked his trip to Mill City to the Eight Great Families. Which one is Furlhan?”
Everyone instinctively looked at Furlhan, whose expression turned extremely ugly.
“Brother Qian Kun…” Linley stared at Qian Kun in surprise. He had only suspected, but didn’t expect Qian Kun to declare it so bluntly.
Furlhan stood up, his face filled with anger, and glared at Qian Kun, “Lord Qian Kun, even with your great strength, you shouldn’t slander me. As a third-generation member of the clan, I have killed two Seven-Star Demons from the Eight Great Families in over ten thousand years. My son even lost his strongest divine clone in battle with the enemy, and you call me a traitor? Ha…”
Furlhan laughed bitterly, and his emotion convinced several elders.
“Qian Kun, Furlhan is my son. I’ve known him well for countless years. He couldn’t possibly be a traitor. On what grounds do you accuse him?” The Grand Elder stood abruptly, her silver mask hiding angry eyes.
Qian Kun replied calmly, “Grand Elder, nothing is absolute. How can you be sure Furlhan isn’t a traitor? It’s simple enough—we’ll use a soul-compelling method on him, and he’ll tell the truth.”
Soul-compelling? Furlhan’s expression changed, then he sneered inwardly, “Use soul-compelling on me? I’m a Seven-Star Demon, protected by the clan’s innate azure light. Even a perfected Highgod might not be able to compel me!”
“Furlhan, you seem calm. Do you think your strength and the Azure Dragon clan’s innate azure light will prevent me from compelling you?” Qian Kun smiled at Furlhan, who snorted and turned away. Qian Kun’s smile deepened, and he closed his eyes, “Alright, let me see whether your clan’s azure light is truly so powerful.”
As he spoke, an invisible wave emanated from Qian Kun’s brow, sweeping toward Furlhan.
Soon, Furlhan, whose expression had been ugly, suddenly grew dazed, his brow furrowed, shaking his head slightly. His gaze dulled, and he became completely vacant.
