Chapter 107: The timing is quite accurate (9th update)
"Grandpa's granddaughter, are you here so early?"
Mu Qingchen leaned gracefully on the railing, one hand resting upon it while the other supported herself at her side. Her body was slightly angled, brows and eyes still heavy with sleep, a warm, just-woken glow slowly radiating from her.
Hearing the voice, Ran Siyue stiffened visibly. Before she could turn around, she could already sense that the person behind her seemed to be in quite a good state. As she slowly turned her head, it confirmed her suspicions.
At that moment, Mu Qingchen’s lips were red and her teeth white, her face so tender it looked as if it could be pinched to yield water. Yet she regarded Ran Siyue with an enigmatic smile, her expression unreadable, devoid of any emotion. In stark contrast to Ran Siyue’s tear-swollen eyes, it was utterly wretched.
Ran Siyue seethed with rage. Although she knew this girl had gone too far, she couldn’t fathom why she could remain so composed. ‘Could something have gone wrong… Impossible.’ Her heart jolted, but in the next instant she dismissed the thought. Merely a few maliciously cropped photos had already revealed Mu Jingchi. Now, with even clearer photographs taken, complete with the license plate clearly visible, if they were fabricated, how could the Mu family remain so unperturbed? Unless… she had no room for denial!
At this juncture, Ran Siyue continued to cry softly, wiping her tears and murmuring, “I’m here to apologize to Grandpa.”
“Apologize?”
“Mm.”
Ran Siyue nodded stiffly, her hands twisting anxiously in front of her, almost forming a tight knot. After a brief moment, Mu Qingchen advanced two steps and, as she passed, suddenly turned her head and leaned in close to Ran Siyue’s ear, whispering, “You’ve picked quite the perfect timing.”
“……”
Ran Siyue’s form froze. She instinctively raised her head and met Mu Qingchen’s smiling gaze. Those bright eyes, hidden behind black frames, had never dimmed from the obstruction of the thick lenses. Her narrow, sharp eye corners were like the stinger of a bee, piercing and lethal. With just a slight narrowing, they could stab straight into the heart. Just as it seemed to have happened to Ran Siyue, as if pierced directly, her heart raced, and her fingers slowly chilled.
In a daze, Mu Qingchen had already arrived at the doorway of the old master’s chamber. She halted, turned slightly, paused, then spoke with deep meaning, “Siya sister, why don’t I lend you a hand?” With that, she raised her hand and gently knocked on the door. Then she whispered softly, “Grandpa, it’s Qingchen. Please open the door.”
It took only a few seconds before the door opened from within. The impeccably attired old master stood there, his expression stern as he scanned Ran Siyue from head to toe. Then, when his gaze fell on Mu Qingchen, it softened unexpectedly. “Why not get a bit more sleep?” “I’ve woken up. I’ve slept well.” “Mm, your complexion does look much better now.” Observing Mu Qingchen’s face regain its pink, tender hue, the old master nodded contentedly. He cast another glance at Ran Siyue, who stood behind with her head bowed, and sighed, saying, “Come, let’s have breakfast together.” “Grandpa, thank you.” Ran Siyue’s eyes brimmed with tears. Seeing that the old master had finally softened, she let out a sigh of relief. The old master frowned at Mu Qingchen and said, “Qingchen, help me over there.” “Yes, Grandpa.” Mu Qingchen obediently assisted the old master as they made their way to the dining room. Behind them followed Ran Siyue, still with her head lowered. Unseen by others, her brows twisted into a cold, sinister crease.
