The phone kept ringing incessantly, and Hua Shier hurriedly answered it. However, since the screen was shattered, the touchscreen wasn’t working properly, and somehow it had switched to speakerphone.

Then his mother’s voice came through the speaker:

“Son, how did the blind date go today? It’s been so long already, and you little rascal haven’t even called your mom. I’ve been worrying all this time!”

Hearing his mother’s words, Hua Shier let out a sigh of relief. He had been worried she might have found out about his being hit by a car and gotten anxious, raising her blood pressure. It seemed she still didn’t know.

He glanced at Luo Yun beside him—after all, she was the one he had been blind dating. His mother’s question, overheard by her, was a bit embarrassing.

Though awkward, he answered honestly:

“Mom, let’s not talk about this anymore. The girl has the same thoughts as I do; neither of us wants to rush into finding a partner so soon.”

Luo Yun’s eyes widened, blinking in surprise. Suddenly, her eyes flashed with a strange expression before she loudly said:

“Auntie, hello, I’m Luo Yun. We just finished eating and are about to watch a movie together. Don’t listen to Shier’s nonsense—I’m quite satisfied with your son.”

At her words, laughter came from the other end of the line:

“Oh, that’s good to hear. If you’re happy, then I won’t disturb you young people on your date. Let Shier bring you home to visit another day.”

Before Hua Shier could respond, his mother hung up swiftly, as if afraid of interrupting her son’s date.

Hua Shier looked at Luo Yun with a dark expression:

“What are you doing? Didn’t you say you didn’t want to think about relationships so early? Don’t you know what you just said makes things complicated for me?”

Luo Yun looked innocent:

“I did think that before, but then you risked your own safety to save that child. Such a precious quality is rare in today’s world. I was afraid I’d regret missing out if I let this chance slip.”

Hua Shier scoffed. When she was reading those lesbian comics earlier, her eyes were practically glaring like the song said: “Eyes wide like copper bells, shooting lightning sharpness.”

If he believed she wanted to be his girlfriend now, he would be a fool.

He strongly suspected she just wanted to use him as a shield while secretly carrying out some underhanded schemes.

Hua Shier cautiously asked, “So, does this mean you agreed to be my girlfriend?”

Luo Yun gave a strange smile: “Well, I’m agreeing to give you a chance to court me!”

“Court you?” Hua Shier sneered. He wanted to ask, “Which nightclub do you think you’re from?”

Seeing he didn’t respond, Luo Yun nudged him: “Hey, so are you in or not?”

Leaning back on his hospital bed, Hua Shier didn’t believe a word she said. Seeing her insist, he lazily called out, “Nurse, there’s a crazy woman bothering me here!”

Luo Yun crossed her arms and glared, “Who are you calling crazy...?”

Before Hua Shier could reply, Luo Yun’s phone rang. She answered and heard a woman’s voice on the other end.

Since Luo Yun was right beside the bed and the ward was quiet, Hua Shier clearly overheard their conversation.

The woman on the call said, “Honey, what are you doing? Hurry up and come out. There’s a party tonight!”

Luo Yun refused, “I’m not going today. I promised... I have some things to do here.”

The woman coaxed in a coquettish voice, “Really not coming? I’m telling you, there will be some gorgeous girls—two campus beauties from XX University will be there, plus the two mainstays from XX Bar. It’s a rare opportunity...”

Hua Shier saw Luo Yun’s eyes suddenly light up, just like his cousin’s little niece when she sees a cream cake. Exactly the same.

He heard the conversation but didn’t suspect Luo Yun of selling herself for money. From her expression, he could tell she was the hunter, not the hunted.

Sure enough, Luo Yun perked up at the mention of campus beauties and bar stars, smiling brightly:

“Alright, fine. Come pick me up. I’m at XX Hospital... yes, hurry up!”

She hung up, then reached out, took Hua Shier’s phone, added him on WeChat, tossed the phone back, and said:

“Save my WeChat so we can keep in touch. I’ve got some things to handle, so I’ll go now!”

Feeling a bit unreliable, she added: “Anyway, the nurse said you’re fine now. I have a meeting at work—yes, one I absolutely can’t miss...”

As she spoke, she grabbed her bag and waved at Hua Shier while briskly walking out, even blowing a flying kiss as she left.

Hua Shier was speechless. So loud on the phone, talking about campus beauties and bar stars, and a “meeting”? Yeah, right!

But since she was leaving, he let it be. As people say, he wasn’t seriously hurt, and it’s awkward to have a young lady stay by his side.

Though Luo Yun was beautiful, it was clear they weren’t a match. Mainly, the comics and that phone call made Hua Shier quite certain that although she was a different gender, her orientation was exactly the same as his.

He guessed she was under pressure from her family too, but because of her orientation, she didn’t know how to tell them. So she used this blind date as a cover to hide her special orientation—one that her family, parents, and most of society wouldn’t accept.

Hua Shier felt this blind date experience was truly bizarre—anything could happen.

Right now, he just wanted to call his mother back, gently express his disagreement, and then transfer the money for the clothes to Luo Yun.

He never intended to tell his mother the truth.

If he did, his mother would undoubtedly talk to Luo Yun’s mother, revealing Luo Yun’s secret she didn’t want her family to know.

Though he agreed with Luo Yun’s feelings, the fact she stayed with him in the hospital and bought him new clothes earned his gratitude. He wouldn’t betray her—that would be too heartless.
