92. The Master at the Peak
At this moment, all eyes turned to Chen Fengyun, and many silently hoped he would split the hateful foreign swordsman in two with a single blow.
“The warm-up is over. Now I’m going to get a little serious.” Chen Fengyun did not answer the surrounding murmurs. Instead, he looked at Doggie with a faint, mocking smile. He had already decided to end the fight quickly, for it seemed the police had arrived outside the estate.
Given the scale of Qin Tianxiong’s influence, it was impossible that he had no allies within the police force. So the three patrol cars that had arrived first probably contained officers who had not come because of a report from him. Otherwise, far more vehicles would likely have shown up.
“Good. I’ll rip your heart out and show these Chinese people what happens to anyone who dares oppose us.” Doggie glared viciously at Chen Fengyun. With a flourish of his blade, he gripped his saber in both hands and launched himself forward like a starving tiger pouncing on prey.
A thunderous crash rang out.
No one had expected Chen Fengyun to meet the incoming strike head-on without dodging. Yet when Doggie’s blade reached him, an earthshaking explosion suddenly erupted, and the force actually rebounded Doggie’s body backward.
“Ah...”
But Chen Fengyun seemed to have anticipated it all along. He flashed forward in pursuit and slapped Doggie hard across the face, sending him staggering backward seven or eight steps. Doggie spat out a mouthful of blood along with several teeth, and one side of his face swelled rapidly.
“Bastard!”
Doggie had never imagined he would be slapped in the face, and in full view of everyone at that. Enraged, he roared and lunged at Chen Fengyun. His body vanished into the air, yet a fierce rain of sword energy came crashing down from all directions.
“Such petty tricks. How dare you embarrass yourselves before us?”
Chen Fengyun laughed coldly. Nearly all the martial experts of that island nation knew a little ninja technique; in truth, it was merely a crude imitation of certain mysterious arts that their ancestors had secretly learned from the Central Plains. They had grasped only the faintest surface of it, yet treated it as sacred doctrine.
Among the spectators, only Gu Qingyuan could vaguely sense the faint fluctuations emanating from Doggie’s body, but he could not lock onto his position in the air. The other Chinese martial artists could not sense anything at all.
At that moment, Chen Fengyun snorted and, without turning his head, struck the air off to the rear side with a palm of empty-space force. A whistling gale tore up the dust around him, surging like a dragon-shaped vortex toward the sky.
A fierce burst of sword energy suddenly erupted from that direction in midair, instantly intertwining with the palm wind. The collision unleashed a violent surge that swept in all directions.
“Today I’ll show you island-country fools what true Chinese stealth arts really are.”
Chen Fengyun’s voice rang out, and then his own body vanished as well.
“Bastard!”
Gu Qingyuan lost all sense of Chen Fengyun’s presence at once, and even Anjing Ichiro cried out a warning to Doggie, telling him to be careful, because even he could no longer detect Chen Fengyun’s aura or position.
What Chen Fengyun was using was not the ancient stealth art of the Central Plains, but the movement art of a cultivator. Though not necessarily superior to the old Chinese technique, it was certainly not something island-country ninja arts could compare to.
With a metallic ring, a cry of pain followed.
The instant Doggie sensed something was wrong and revealed himself from midair, Chen Fengyun also appeared before him, trapping his saber between two fingers. With a gentle bend, the blade snapped in half. Chen Fengyun flicked the broken tip, and it shot straight into Doggie’s shoulder, making him howl in agony.
“Chinese dog, die!”
Ignoring his injury, Doggie hurled the broken saber in his hand at Chen Fengyun, then drew a short blade from his waist with his other hand and lunged in with a furious shout, stabbing straight for him.
“Hmph. Little island rat, you dare come to the Central Plains to run wild? You’ve made the wrong calculation.”
Chen Fengyun reached out and snatched the broken blade from the air in an instant. Then, with a few swift slashes, he not only blocked Doggie’s attack but also cut several wounds across his arms and legs.
Another crash.
A scream followed.
In the end, Chen Fengyun kicked Doggie flying. He slammed heavily to the ground at Anjing Ichiro’s feet, his limbs twitching uncontrollably as blood sprayed everywhere. Chen Fengyun had directly shattered Doggie’s inner core and severed the meridians in his arms and legs, leaving him utterly crippled.
“Damn you!”
Seeing his disciple crippled, Anjing Ichiro flew into a rage and let out a furious roar to the heavens. A colossal aura erupted from his body and shot upward like a pillar of smoke, piercing the sky.
At once, wild winds as strong as a gale of seven or eight force swept around him. Sand and stones flew, leaves scattered in all directions, and anyone standing too close was forced back again and again. No one could get within two yards of him.
“How terrifying Anjing Ichiro is.”
“Indeed, a veteran powerhouse who defeated more than a dozen Chinese grandmasters over a decade ago.”
“Too frightening. Can Elder Gu really stop him?”
“This is bad. Chen Fengyun crippled Anjing Ichiro’s disciple, and now he’s enraged.”
“Hmph, this is China, not that island nation. Do you really think Anjing Ichiro can run rampant here?”
“That’s right. There are plenty of grandmasters in China, and this place isn’t far from Azure City Mountain. I’ve heard there’s an incredibly formidable white-haired grandmaster there. Maybe he’ll be drawn here.”
Seeing Anjing Ichiro lose control, the crowd hastily retreated. Even Qin Tianxiong looked afraid and withdrew with his men by more than ten steps. The martial artists began discussing it in alarm—some fearful, some worried, some seething with hatred.
“You have a lot of nerve, crippling my most cherished disciple. Today I’ll kill you, and I’ll bury your disciple under the bodies of all Chinese martial artists. I’ll find your family and torment them until death!” Anjing Ichiro bellowed.
“Old fool, is all you can do is shout? If you have the ability, come take my life. If you don’t, then leave your own here today.” Chen Fengyun’s expression darkened. He hated nothing more than threats against his family. Anyone who dared use such threats against him could not be allowed to live.
Another deafening boom.
With no words to spare, Anjing Ichiro and Chen Fengyun charged at each other at the same time. Both erupted with violent auras, like two rampaging dragons colliding and stirring a sky full of storm winds that swept in every direction, shaking the surrounding buildings.
“My God, they’re so strong.”
“Who would have thought Chen Fengyun, at such a young age, would possess such terrifying power?”
“There’s hope. I hope Chen Fengyun can hold Anjing Ichiro back.”
“This is the peak of the grandmaster realm! I never imagined they’d both have reached the peak grandmaster level. One step further, and they’d become great grandmasters.”
