Chapter 32: It’s Over! Xie Beishen Must Have Misunderstood.
Xie Beishen’s low, resonant voice emanated from his throat: "Are you this intimate with every man?" With that, he pulled his arm away.
Su Wanwan leaned close to his ear and whispered, "No, only with you. Keep your voice down; there are people nearby, let’s not get caught."
Xie Beishen’s jaw tightened sharply. The fragrant, soft breath brushing against his earlobe made his body feel like it was about to explode. Especially her words—*only with you.* He was certain now that he had feelings for this woman.
Su Wanwan was determined to seize this opportunity. To win someone over, one had to be proactive. She hooked her arm back through his, giving him no chance to retreat, and whispered, "Don’t move. It’s so dark, I’m a little scared." Holding his arm gave her a profound sense of security.
Xie Beishen knew she was just a coward; he had witnessed that last time, along with the bizarre songs she sang.
Su Wanwan breathed softly against his ear again, "Did you see the note I wrote for you?"
Xie Beishen suppressed the strange flutter in his heart and replied, "I just got up the mountain to bathe; I haven't received it yet."
Su Wanwan murmured, "I asked Xiao Hei to deliver it. You have to write back to me once you read it."
Xie Beishen gave a low, noncommittal "Mm." He didn't know why, but he found himself agreeing, almost as if under a spell.
Su Wanwan’s eyes lit up. He had agreed, and he hadn't rejected her touch again. This was a huge step forward in their relationship. Winning him over was only a matter of time. His arm felt firm and powerful.
She whispered into his ear again, "Xie Beishen, I’ve started pursuing you. Please, don’t reject me too quickly, okay?"
A light sheen of sweat formed on Xie Beishen’s forehead. The soft, smooth sensation of her skin against him made his heart race uncontrollably.
At that moment, Xie Beishen heard footsteps approaching in the distance. He realized just how sharp this woman’s hearing truly was; she must have heard them the moment they started climbing the mountain. Did she have dog ears or something? How was she so sharp?
Ma Zhiming had intended to bring Liu Caixia into the cornfield. He figured the reason he hadn't managed to "do" Su Wanwan last time was just because the location wasn't right. This time, bringing her up the mountain would surely seal the deal.
Seeing the woman trembling and nestling into his chest, he comforted her, "Don’t be afraid, let’s go a little further in."
Liu Caixia said coquettishly, "Brother Zhiming, I’m scared. Can’t we go somewhere else?"
Ma Zhiming smirked wickedly, "This is the exciting part," and pulled her closer.
Hearing the man’s voice, Su Wanwan realized it was Ma Zhiming. But who was the woman? She didn't recognize her. She whispered to Xie Beishen, "It’s Ma Zhiming. Who is that woman? Do you know her?"
Xie Beishen’s face turned icy. It was pitch black all around, with only shadows visible, yet this woman could identify Ma Zhiming just by his voice. He had almost forgotten that she had a partner, and that partner was the very man standing right there. Why had he been so bewitched by her? *Damn it!*
He replied with displeasure, "I don't know her." How could he know any women? Unlike her, who could identify Ma Zhiming just by the sound of his voice.
Ma Zhiming led Liu Caixia under a large tree and pressed her against it. "Bringing you here proves how much I love you." He then kissed her, his hands beginning to wander restlessly.
Liu Caixia pushed him away slightly and said in a soft, coy tone, "Answer my question first before we keep kissing. When you were with Su Wanwan, did you ever kiss her?"
Ma Zhiming promised, "No."
Su Wanwan’s pupils contracted, and a wave of anxiety washed over her. *Damn it!* Where did this foolish woman come from, and why did she know her? If they wanted to be intimate, fine, but why drag her into it? She didn't know what Xie Beishen must be thinking; she would have to explain later. She would deny it to the death—if she admitted it, she would never win Xie Beishen over, and besides, she hadn't done anything.
Su Wanwan’s vision was excellent; she could still see Ma Zhiming pressing that woman against the tree. She heard their conversation clearly, followed by the rustling of clothes. The two of them were truly an eyesore. She didn't want to watch, mostly because this pathetic man was nauseating. She wrapped both arms around Xie Beishen’s arm and buried her face against it, shielding herself from their lewd behavior. It was better to just lean against Xie Beishen. It would be even better if she could be in his arms.
Xie Beishen’s gaze darkened, his aura chilling instantly. *Did she care about this man that much? Enough to be this heartbroken?* He felt a strange heat on the arm she was holding. He didn't want to watch the pair either; he pulled his arm roughly from Su Wanwan’s grasp and turned his back on her. He didn't even notice the faint trace of jealousy spreading in his heart.
Su Wanwan’s heart sank. *It’s over! It’s over! Xie Beishen must have misunderstood.* That cursed Ma Zhiming was always causing her trouble. She had worked so hard to get closer to Xie Beishen, and now they were back to freezing point. She turned around and tugged at the sleeve of his shirt.
Xie Beishen’s deep, cold eyes showed no interest in dealing with this foolish woman. He pulled his sleeve from her grip and turned his head the other way.
Su Wanwan cursed Ma Zhiming, that plague of a man, for choosing this exact moment. Even though she couldn't see, the sounds that made one blush and race were heard even more clearly. She didn't know if they couldn't find a good spot, but they fumbled for a long time before the woman cried out in pain. Then, with a sudden "Ah," it was over.
Su Wanwan: "!!!"
*That was it? Five seconds?* Su Wanwan thought five seconds was being generous—maybe three?
A flash of surprise crossed Xie Beishen’s eyes, followed by a cold scoff as he glanced at the person beside him. *A blind woman.* Even an ophthalmologist probably couldn't cure her eyes.
Su Wanwan heard Ma Zhiming’s voice: "It’s my first time, I wasn't prepared."
Although it was Liu Caixia’s first time as well, she knew enough to realize Ma Zhiming had been too fast, but she chose to believe it was because he was inexperienced. After finishing, Ma Zhiming felt his leg start to cramp and couldn't help but shake his left leg. "Why does my leg hurt?"
Suddenly, a faint laugh drifted down from higher up the mountain, scaring Ma Zhiming and Liu Caixia so much that they grabbed their clothes and fled down the mountain. The one who hadn't been able to stifle a laugh was Su Jianwei. He and two others had just come down the mountain when they heard the two "playing in the wild." He hadn't expected them to be faster than him. A useless fellow, getting a leg cramp—he had never had a cramp in his life, and he just couldn't help but laugh.
Su Jianjun and Su Heng, who were following him, naturally heard what had just happened. Su Heng hadn't expected it to be Liu Caixia; the woman was simply shameless. Su Jianjun had been looking for dirt on Ma Zhiming for the past two days, and he hadn't expected to run into him tonight. He would certainly not let him off for harming his daughter. This man was a blight on the village; once he dealt with Su Mao’s family, he would handle Ma Zhiming.
After Su Jianwei went down the mountain, Xie Beishen said in a cold, biting tone, "So this is the man you fancy? Since you have a partner, don't come bothering me." He started to rise, but the person beside him grabbed his arm.
Su Wanwan cursed Ma Zhiming as a plague-ridden dog in her heart and hurriedly explained, "I don't have a partner! If I did, would I be chasing you? Can you just listen to me?"
Xie Beishen stood up, feeling inexplicably irritable. "There’s no need. We aren't at a stage where we owe each other explanations. Let go. I’ll take you back; the mountain isn't safe."
Su Wanwan walked beside him and whispered, "Xie Beishen, I knew you still cared about me. Tonight isn't a good time for explanations. I’ll come find you tomorrow and explain everything, okay?" Her voice was laced with an unconscious, coquettish tone.
