Chapter 110: The Deathly Silent Demon Realm
The otherworldly space appeared dazzling and resplendent, yet in truth, danger lurked at every turn. This entire dimension was essentially a conduit of pure energy—a spatial energy bridge that connected two entirely different locations. This concept bore a striking resemblance to the spatial teleportation found in magic. However, unlike teleportation between two points within the same world, this bridge linked two worlds from separate planes of existence. Consequently, the connection inevitably produced spatial rifts, which, when pieced together bit by bit, formed the very otherworldly space they now beheld.
In other words, this dimension was inherently unstable.
Whether inside or outside this otherworldly space, even a minor tremor might cause fluctuations or tears between these spatial fissures, potentially shattering the entire dimension. When that occurred, no matter how formidable one’s strength, they would be forcibly drawn into a dimensional void. Even the most powerful entities or the most tenacious souls, once subjected to the violent tearing and compression within this unstable dimensional space, would be utterly annihilated.
Though Veil’s face showed no sign of tension, his mind was saturated with caution. He heightened his perception to its limits; any subtle vibration or disturbance would immediately alert him, allowing him to react in the shortest possible time.
After over ten minutes of traversing, Veil finally detected the faintest ripple. Looking up, a pitch-black opening suddenly appeared before them.
An exit.
Veil’s eyelid twitched involuntarily, a surge of indescribable excitement flashing through his heart. Yet, almost instantly, that excitement was replaced by anxiety and prudence.
Crossing through that dark portal meant entering another plane—a world they had never touched before: the Demon Realm.
Neither Nassar, Veil, nor Skandori possessed more than the barest knowledge of the Demon Realm. No one truly knew what kind of world it was. Perhaps it was a savage realm teeming with undead creatures, reminiscent of a primeval wilderness, or maybe it resembled Magic World Six, divided into several sectors, each with its own unique lifeforms. Its culture could be inferior to Magic World Six or possibly far surpass it.
“No matter what, we have to see it for ourselves,” Veil thought silently. He was never one to proceed with meticulous caution or to calculate every detail precisely. He preferred a wild, bold approach—danger and excitement stirred the long-dormant blood coursing through his veins.
Gripping his magical staff tightly, Veil turned to Skandori and Nassar, a hint of excitement playing on his lips. “Are you both ready?”
Before they could answer, Veil plunged headfirst into the black opening.
………………………………………..
There was no scorching sun, no dim moonlight. The entire world seemed to have long since fallen into deathly silence. Beneath a gloomy sky stretched boundless desolation and wasteland.
No green plants, no flowing streams—no trace of even the most basic life.
The air was thick with murky yellow dust and sand, while the howling wind roared relentlessly, as if eager to assert its power over this barren world.
“Is this the Demon Realm?” Veil stared in disbelief. He reached out and grabbed a handful of the void’s sand and wind. The razor-sharp grains stung his skin subtly. Retracting his arm, Veil found his palm dusted with fine particles of sand.
Frowning slightly, he quickly tucked in his sleeves and pant legs to prevent the sand from blowing inside his clothing. He raised his collar to shield his neck and part of his face, then extended a hand forward to block the blowing dust from entering his mouth, nose, or eyes.
Barren—this was the only word Veil could conjure. This so-called Demon Realm seemed to hold nothing but endless yellow sand and almost fully eroded earth. The only consolation was that he could still sense traces of magical energy in the environment, although compared to Magic World Six, it was pitifully sparse.
Regarding meditation, Veil could fully replenish his consumed mana in a day or even half a day back in Magic World Six. Here, it might take three or four days—or even longer—to recover the mana he needed. This meant he had to minimize his mana consumption and keep his inner sea of consciousness saturated at all times.
“Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!”
The howling wind was incessant. Amid the tumultuous noise came faint, scattered sounds. Though Veil had heightened his perception, his hearing proved of little use.
“Clank, clank, clank!”
Sounds like metal scraping echoed, growing ever closer. Veil remained unaware and simply stared at the tiny black specks seemingly shifting in the distance.
Suddenly, the black spots vanished as if into thin air, startling Veil. He immediately realized these spots must have been some form of undead creatures. Instinctively, he drew his magical staff, eyes locked intently ahead.
“One, two, three…”
Veil counted the undead rapidly approaching him at an astonishing speed. They were capable of moving swiftly underground, treating the tough soil as effortlessly as air. In the blink of an eye, they had advanced a hundred meters, leaving long cracks on the surface behind.
One second.
Two seconds.
Three seconds.
Veil’s expression grew grimmer. His staff flicked slightly, and tiny fragments resembling ice crystals scattered from its delicate tip. Completely focused on the threat ahead, he remained oblivious to the fact that several jet-black undead creatures had silently appeared behind him.
“Whoosh!”
A sharp sound pierced the air. Veil sprang into action, swinging his staff fiercely. Three massive diamond-shaped ice spikes burst through the earth. One pierced a strange creature covered in black spots, while the other two were blocked. A gleam flashed in Veil’s eyes as he forcefully brought down his staff again. The three enormous ice spikes shattered instantly—but curiously, they did not fragment into shards. Instead, they transformed into ice mist, swiftly enveloping the remaining two creatures.
“Ice Seal!”
Veil’s staff gleamed with a pale, radiant light. The words slipped through his clenched teeth. The icy mist froze solid in an instant, encasing the two undead and even the surrounding dust.
With the threat neutralized, Veil lowered his arms and exhaled. At that moment, two strange, piercing sounds reached his ears. Reacting instinctively, he turned to see Nassar standing behind him, and beneath Nassar’s feet lay two lifeless undead creatures, impaled by a massive black greatsword.
Hadn’t Nassar just been debating whether to kill Veil? Why had he saved him now?
Veil’s heart stirred, but then he guessed the reason. Neither Nassar nor Skandori understood this place any better than he did. In this realm filled with unknown perils, they had to unite.
Even if only temporarily.
At that thought, Veil chuckled coldly in his heart, but on the surface, he merely nodded at Nassar with a faint smile. “Thank you.”
“Mm,” Nassar replied stiffly, as usual. Then he gestured behind him. “The High Priest has revealed something. He wants you to go.”
