Volume One, Chapter Five: I Told My Mother You Betrayed Me Emotionally

Good heavens, “for my own good,” he says? Li Huange nearly rolled her eyes. They’re all foxes—what’s with pretending to be innocent little rabbits? “I hope that when the time comes, my child and my husband can get along like friends,” she said. “Besides, I’m absolutely certain that Shen Qi would never let Xiao Kun go hungry.”
This Li Huange believed without a shadow of doubt; Shen Qi’s gentle nature over the past three years had deeply impressed her. Perhaps… perhaps Shen Qi was a bit stingy, feeling he did too much without a raise? Or maybe it was because Shen Xiaokun was new, and Shen Qi was just not used to him yet? That’s it! It must be because Shen Qi was young and inexperienced with children.
Li Lei chuckled, “Then let’s wait and see if Shen Qi really starves Xiao Kun.”
“Yeah,” Fang Qian smiled, “what if Xiao Kun actually ends up washing the dishes?”
[Impossible! Absolutely impossible! Kids this age need coaxing, but Shen Qi doesn’t do that.]
[Maybe a bit of tough love to build habits, but that wouldn’t happen on a show like this.]
[My son is five, and all those child experts’ soft-spoken methods just don’t work.]
...
Shen Xiaokun was very disciplined, perhaps out of habit, quietly practicing penmanship on camera for an hour and a half. This amazed the viewers in the live chat. A five-year-old boy should be lively, mischievous, and restless, yet here was Xiao Kun, sitting still! Suddenly, he won everyone’s favor.
Shen Qi tidied up a bit, then lay back on the sofa, scrolling on his phone. When the camera zoomed in, everyone was stunned. On Shen Qi’s phone screen was a busty, long-legged beauty, her body seemingly… slick with oil?
[Hahaha, as expected—men and their lust! Even dogs can be trained, but men are hopeless.]
[As a man, I think watching videos like this is normal, right?]
[Shen Qi just did the chores; can’t he look at a pretty woman?]
[My husband does nothing all day but watch these videos, so Shen Qi is actually quite good.]
Li Huange blinked her beautiful eyes, staring at the screen in disbelief. Was this really Shen Qi? Although the agreement clearly stated that neither party would interfere in the other’s affairs...

But Shen Qi had never been lecherous before; he never looked at such things. Even if he were lustful, wasn’t I enough? Bai Qinghe’s cold voice cut in, “I think Shen Qi is probably a hypocrite. I pity the lady of this house.”
Li Huange frowned immediately. “I can’t agree with that. Teacher Bai Qinghe, you’re married too—can you guarantee your husband is exactly the same in private as he is in front of you? Does watching a video of a pretty woman really prove he’s a hypocrite?”
Bai Qinghe snorted, “Looks like Queen Huange still doesn’t understand men.”
Lin Xiaolu laughed, “First Shen Qi sang vulgar songs, then tricked Xiao Kun out of money, threatened him by withholding food if he didn’t wash dishes, and now he’s sneaking videos of beauties. To me, that’s a fail on all counts.”
Li Huange frowned. No one knew Shen Qi was her husband; what if that got out? She felt a twinge of worry.
On screen, Shen Qi frowned and muttered, “These beauties have big breasts and long legs, and they’re good-looking, but they’re all so vulgar and full of makeup. Compared to Li Huange, they’re nowhere near.”
Li Huange flushed, a sweet warmth bubbling in her heart. In his eyes... am I really that good?
[No argument there! Nobody compares to Queen Huange.]
[So Shen Qi the dad is actually a fan of Li Huange—makes sense. Who in China doesn’t adore her?]
[Kindred spirits, for sure.]
[Hey, last time I got caught watching beauty videos by my wife, this was exactly the excuse I used!]
Bai Qinghe and Lin Xiaolu’s expressions darkened, tinged with envy. “Who’d have thought, Queen Huange even has this kind of influence over a dad.”
“Can’t compare, can’t compare...”
Zhuo Yiyi smiled, “Looks like Shen Qi isn’t lustful—he’s admiring Queen Huange!”
Just then, Shen Xiaokun leaned over to Shen Qi’s screen. “I’m telling Mom you’re cheating on her emotionally!”
Shen Qi chuckled, “Xiao Kun, you still don’t know what’s really going on at home. Do you think Mom will believe you if you say bad things about me?”
Xiao Kun paused, then understood immediately. Watching this, Li Huange’s heart was a tangle of emotions, and she couldn’t help but sneer inwardly. Seems she was truly fooled by Shen Qi.

Xiao Kun seemed reluctant to talk further with Shen Qi. After shooting a sharp look his way, he went upstairs to the study.
Shen Qi brewed a pot of tea, pulled out his laptop, and began typing while sipping. Many viewers were curious.
[Even zoomed in, we can’t see what he’s writing—only that it’s some kind of document.]
[Shen Qi looks like he’s unemployed. The intro says he’s a full-time husband, but now it feels like he has a secret job.]
[Maybe he’s a web novel author like me. All my secret money comes from writing online stories; my wife has no idea.]
Discussion also buzzed in the studio. Especially Li Huange, who had never seen Shen Qi sit at a computer and had no idea what he was doing. It made her uneasy, as if some uncontrollable feeling was creeping in.
Fortunately, Shen Qi hadn’t shown any of the worst habits a man could have.
Upstairs, the sound of piano music floated down—smooth, skillful, and beautiful. The screen switched to Shen Xiaokun, sitting like a little adult at the piano, serious and focused on his playing.
Li Huange couldn’t help but smile slightly. Thank goodness for Xiao Kun.
She thought back to when she first met Xiao Kun; his parents’ deaths and the pain of the accident had been forgotten, but Xiao Kun was like a vessel carrying all the beautiful memories, untouched by sorrow.
Li Huange had invested endless effort into nurturing Xiao Kun, and only after he accepted her did she bring him home. She was determined to give him a brilliant life!
Xiao Kun was talented and versatile, having mastered nearly all the skills he was interested in, despite being only five. This was a genius!
On the screen, Shen Qi, who had been listening attentively, suddenly furrowed his brow. “No, no, a few notes there are too weak...”
[Just because you’re handsome doesn’t mean you can talk nonsense. I think it sounds great, no problem at all.]
[Some house-husband freeloading and pretending to know everything now?]
[I’ve studied piano for three years, and I still can’t beat a five-year-old?]
[Someone, kick this freeloader out!]
“No, no, still too weak...” Shen Qi frowned again, then suddenly relaxed. “He’s just over five years old. His fingers lack strength; this is pretty good. Why should I care?”
“Back to relaxing!”
