Chapter Thirty-Seven: Danzo’s Final Reckoning
(Page 1/3)
Konoha ninjas returning from the front lines, the ninja clans he had oppressed, Orochimaru, the Uchiha clan...
In the past, Danzo had never taken them seriously. Even Orochimaru, whose reputation was nearing that of the Third Hokage, was in his eyes nothing more than a junior to be exploited. With a few calculated schemes, he could have ruined Orochimaru’s reputation or even seen him killed by Hiruzen Sarutobi.
Yet, what Danzo never expected was for Orochimaru to step forward personally and link these three seemingly unrelated parties together.
【Fubuki: It looks like... Orochimaru has won, doesn't it?】
【Ai Haibara: As expected.】
【Kobayashi: Ninjas are so cool! Did you see that? The pineapple-haired ninja just swooshed in, pinned a needle into the bandage-man's shadow, and froze him in place!】
【Passerby wanting to hug Luo Feng's thigh: Holy cow, how did Boss Orochimaru pull this off? The Ino-Shika-Cho, the Aburame, the Uchiha... has he convinced them all?】
【Borsalino: Hmm, quite an impressive coup. The target on the surface is the one-eyed man in bandages, but the real aim is the Hokage's seat.】
【Kobayashi: What? A coup? Mr. Borsalino, you aren't joking, are you?】
【Passerby wanting to hug Luo Feng's thigh: Oh my god, is Boss Orochimaru taking this opportunity to overthrow the Third and become Hokage himself?】
On the live broadcast, Danzo's loyalists faced dozens of Uchiha clansmen with three-tomoe Sharingans activated; within minutes, they were completely subdued. Unless there is a massive gap in strength, it is no easy feat for a ninja to defeat a member of the Uchiha clan one-on-one, and Danzo’s loyalists were outnumbered to begin with.
Danzo, attempting a desperate last stand, was quickly captured. The furious ninja clans nearly beat him to death; ironically, it was the Uchiha clan, typically the most volatile, who remained the most restrained.
"Danzo Shimura, as the leader of the Root, you have attacked and murdered fellow villagers, plotted the assassination of the Hokage, and coerced ninjas into joining the Root..."
Orochimaru stood before countless ninjas and villagers, exposing Danzo’s crimes. Each revelation drew gasps and curses from the crowd. In particular, when the ninjas who had been forced into the Root stepped forward to reveal the cursed seals on their tongues, it served as the final nail in the coffin, pinning Danzo to the pillar of shame for his atrocities against his own kin.
From start to finish, the Third Hokage could only stand by with a grim expression.

As mentioned before, if this had been handled behind closed doors, no matter what crimes Danzo committed, as long as the Hokage did not give his consent, no one could do anything to him.
But Orochimaru’s brilliance—or rather, his malice—lay in bringing all of this into the public eye!
Furthermore, he timed it when the Konoha ninjas had just returned in triumph, their spirits at an all-time high, only to discover such a festering cancer hidden within their village. The ninjas who had just retreated from the battlefield would not care about Danzo's status. If the village failed to provide a satisfactory answer, they would have no qualms about meting out justice themselves.
"Third, you cannot let Orochimaru continue, or Danzo will have no standing left!" Konoha advisor Koharu Utatane approached the Third Hokage, speaking with deep concern.
"Danzo may have committed many errors, but his contributions are far greater, and that bastard Orochimaru hasn't mentioned a single one!" Homura Mitokado, also a Konoha advisor, was furious. What he hated was not Danzo's heinous crimes, but Orochimaru’s act of inciting the masses to try Danzo. Even if Danzo deserved death, it was not for a junior like Orochimaru to decide. If Orochimaru could judge Danzo today, could he judge the other advisors and elders tomorrow?
"Orochimaru..." The Third Hokage’s feelings were complex. He was angry at the heinous acts Danzo had committed behind his back, but he was equally irritated that Orochimaru had taken it upon himself to hold a public trial without consulting him.
Yet, as Hokage, he could do nothing at this moment. Even if he wanted to join the trial, he would be questioned as to why he hadn't stopped Danzo earlier.
【Kobayashi: Hey, hey, hey! Look at the corner! Those old men whispering together, are they plotting something sinister?】
【Ai Haibara: Hmph, it seems the so-called high-ranking officials of Konoha aren't exactly clean either. They’ve likely committed just as many crimes as Danzo, otherwise they wouldn't be this panicked.】
【Passerby wanting to hug Luo Feng's thigh: Doesn't that make Boss Orochimaru dangerous? I’m not sure current Orochimaru can take on the Third!】
【Fubuki: Seriously, they're so old, wouldn't it be better to just retire quietly?】
【Borsalino: Hold on, why should age mean retirement? I... ahem, I mean, if that person is in good health, they can continue to shine and contribute in their position.】
【Kobayashi: Come to think of it, Mr. Borsalino is an Admiral, isn't he? He must be quite old, too~】
【Ai Haibara: So, is the person we've been chatting with actually a sixty or seventy-year-old geezer?】
(Page 3/3)
【Fubuki: That would be a terrible person...】
【Passerby wanting to hug Luo Feng's thigh: Not necessarily... Boss Kizaru should be considered middle-aged, right?】
【Borsalino: ...Wait, why did the topic suddenly shift to me? And what do you mean by middle-aged? I am the Navy's legendary... undefeated Admiral!】
【Ai Haibara: Middle-aged? Like Kogoro Mouri?】
With that, Ai Haibara uploaded two photos: one of Kogoro Mouri dead drunk, and another of him with a slap mark on his face after being caught hitting on a woman and labeled a pervert. The person who took these photos was clearly short and held a grudge against Mouri, perfectly capturing that specific, greasy, lecherous quality of a middle-aged man.
【Fubuki: That looks so disgusting...】
【Kobayashi: Hmm~ He really reminds me of our section chief~】
【Passerby wanting to hug Luo Feng's thigh: Ah... while they look nothing alike, there is a similarity in a certain sense...】
【Borsalino: Slander! This is blatant slander! How could I possibly look so ugly!】
To save his image, Borsalino scrambled off his oversized sofa, picked up the clothes he had tossed on the carpet, and hurriedly pulled them on.
"Den Den Mushi... Video Den Den Mushi... I remember putting it in the drawer..."
Borsalino opened a drawer he hadn't touched in ages, rummaging through the items inside.
"Hmm... what are you looking for?"
Nami, stirred awake by Borsalino’s movements, sat up groggily. She was draped only in an oversized Marine coat of justice, her youthful and beautiful figure fully visible from Borsalino's angle.
Borsalino, still feeling "unsatisfied," almost couldn't resist pouncing on her.
His wolf-like gaze terrified Nami, who quickly tightened the coat around herself, as if that piece of fabric could actually protect her.
