Chapter 3: Boss, I Want to Move Up
Boom!
A red arc of light erupted from Lin Bei’s Tang dao, causing the temperature at the scene to spike instantly. The flaming, arc-shaped slash sliced clean through the sandbags and wooden stakes in front of him, leaving scorched marks at the points of severance.
As the red light faded, a series of sharp cracking sounds echoed. Everyone’s eyes were drawn involuntarily to the hand Lin Bei used to hold the blade. The once-pristine Tang dao was now charred black and had shattered into several pieces, clearly unable to withstand the power of the Sun Breathing.
Having never seen or even heard of such a feat, Gao Jin, Xiahou Wu, and the others found their breathing growing heavy.
Lin Bei calmly discarded the hilt, wiped his hands with a hot towel handed to him by Selena, and scanned the bodyguards standing before him.
"I demonstrated this power to tell you that the world has undergone certain changes. Forces that once existed only in legends are gradually surfacing. You all have impressive skills, but to protect me, yourselves, and your families and friends in this increasingly dangerous world, that is far from enough."
"The power I just used is called Sun Breathing. It uses the power of the sun to strengthen the body and utilizes tools to unleash strength beyond that of an ordinary person. It possesses a natural restraining effect against certain legendary evil entities."
"I wish to teach this power to you. I only wonder if you are willing to learn."
No sooner had he finished speaking than Xiahou Wu, Feng Yuxiu, and Gao Jin all raised their hands in unison. Xiahou Wu and Feng Yuxiu were notorious martial arts fanatics; they would never pass up an opportunity to improve. Gao Jin’s motivation was purer: he was alive today because Lin Bei had saved him and spent a fortune to treat his illness. He was a man who valued gratitude, and since he owed Lin Bei his life, he would do everything in his power to protect him.
After the three of them made their stance clear, the others followed suit, expressing their willingness to learn. Beyond witnessing the power of Sun Breathing firsthand, Lin Bei’s consistent track record of prophetic foresight was another major factor. They were quite satisfied with their current lives and did not want them destroyed by any external forces.
Seeing the ambition in his subordinates, Lin Bei nodded in satisfaction. He then instructed Selena, "Tell A-Huo to get the cars ready. I’m going out."
"Understood!"
Selena replied and immediately ran off to make arrangements. Given Lin Bei’s current status, every outing was a grand affair that required ample preparation time. It wasn't that Lin Bei enjoyed showing off; rather, having reached his current position, he had offended countless people. There was no telling how many were secretly plotting to take his life, so heightened security was a necessity.
Half an hour later, arguably the most luxurious private motorcade in Hong Kong departed from the Pan-Asia Group headquarters. The escort vehicles in the front and back were either Bentleys or Cadillacs, but the centerpiece was not a classic luxury car like a Rolls-Royce or a Lincoln, but a uniquely modified Hongqi CA770.
At Lin Bei’s level, everything else was superficial—safety was paramount. This vehicle was a mobile fortress hand-crafted by top engineers from the mainland. It was even equipped with a Gatling gun and micro-missiles, providing substantial defensive capabilities. Throughout Hong Kong, even the Governor’s official vehicle could not compare to Lin Bei’s Hongqi. When it first hit the streets of Hong Kong, it had startled quite a few people, nearly triggering a deployment of the garrison, as the symbolism of such a car was truly intimidating.
After driving through the streets for a while, the motorcade pulled up to the entrance of Happy Amusement Park. No sooner had Lin Bei stepped out of the car than the park's owner, having received word, rushed out to greet him. Although he was nearly two generations older than Lin Bei, the owner acted with great humility—one might even say obsequiously.
"Mr. Lin, my surname is Hu, and my given name is Feng. I am the owner of this park. I wonder what brings you here, and how I might be of service?"
Lin Bei glanced at Boss Hu and asked indifferently, "I heard you brought two ancient, thousand-year-old corpses down from the mainland for an exhibition?"
Boss Hu replied cautiously, "That is true. Is Mr. Lin interested in ancient corpses?"
Lin Bei did not answer. Instead, he scanned the environment of the amusement park. After a long while, he said, "Name your price. I want to buy your park."
A look of excitement instantly flashed across Boss Hu’s face. Who in all of Hong Kong didn't know that Lin Bei was a legendary big spender? Whatever he set his sights on, he would acquire, no matter the cost.
Boss Hu feigned a difficult expression and said, "Mr. Lin, the equity structure of this park is a bit complex, and there are issues with the land rights. I’m afraid I can’t give you an answer right away."
Lin Bei scoffed. The park was in a remote location. While Hong Kong was an inch of land worth an inch of gold, not every piece of property was valuable, or the people in the New Territories would have been rich long ago. Too lazy to bicker with this man named Hu, he said directly, "One million. I’ll book your park for a week."
Boss Hu was stunned. Didn't he want to buy it a moment ago? Why the sudden shift to a private booking? Before he could speak, Lin Bei spoke again.
"Nine hundred thousand."
*Damn it,* it was getting cheaper. Terrified, Boss Hu dared not hesitate further and quickly replied, "Deal!"
Lin Bei snapped his fingers, and Huo Xixian, who had just been summoned, immediately stepped forward to negotiate the contract and handle the payment with Boss Hu.
Lin Bei then turned to the somewhat dowdily dressed woman with glasses who had accompanied Boss Hu. "Are you a staff member here?"
The woman shook her head and said, "I am Shao Yu, the person in charge of this ancient corpse exhibition. Hello, Mr. Lin!"
Lin Bei raised an eyebrow. He remembered who this woman was: the historical expert from *The Ghost Busting Shop*, the woman who had been completely taken in by Yun Qing, a man who specialized in catching ghosts with technology. Looking at her flat chest, Lin Bei instantly lost interest and said, "Take me to see those two ancient corpses."
Shao Yu agreed and immediately led Lin Bei to where the corpses were stored, telling him about their origins as they walked. Lin Bei’s reputation on the mainland was even louder than in Hong Kong. Shao Yu was merely a staff member at a small museum; if Boss Hu hadn't had a sudden whim and discovered the corpses at their museum, she probably would never have had the chance to visit Hong Kong. If she could use this opportunity to build a connection with Lin Bei and secure some sponsorship for her institution, a promotion and a raise would be well within reach.
Whether it was due to the breathing technique he had been practicing or not, even before he got close to the two corpses, Lin Bei could feel a strange aura radiating from them from seven or eight meters away.
