“Why are you stopping me? Lu Yike, if you don’t give me an explanation, I won’t let this go!”

In front of the disciplinary committee’s enforcement vehicle, Jiang Hu’s face was ablaze with fury as he glared at Lu Yike and shouted his question.

Just five minutes earlier, the prosecutors from the city procuratorate had successfully escorted Yang Dong onto their enforcement car and left with much fanfare.

Jiang Hu couldn’t stop them—he knew better than to use force, since that would escalate matters. Still, he used his body to shield Yang Dong, refusing to let them take him away.

But then Lu Yike appeared, blocked Jiang Hu, and allowed Che Jinpeng, the director of the Second Prosecutor’s Office, to take Yang Dong.

He was powerless to prevent it, and he couldn’t understand why. His anger simmered.

Lu Yike’s expression was icy. She glared at Jiang Hu, said nothing, and turned to get into the car behind.

Jiang Hu was actually a little afraid of Lu Yike—they’d known each other for years. More than a decade ago, they grew up in the same institution. Lu Yike was two or three years older, the big sister, always able to make him cry during their childhood scuffles.

But today, for the sake of Yang Dong, he’d lost his temper at Lu Yike. He simply could not accept Yang Dong being taken away. Why should Yang Dong be taken? It was obvious the city procuratorate was stirring trouble, obvious it was someone's scheme.

He yanked open the car door, got in angrily.

“Comrade, Yang Dong has been taken away?”

At this moment, Tian Guanghan had donned a serene expression, smiling like an old monk as he looked at Jiang Hu.

Jiang Hu shot Tian Guanghan a vicious glare. “Don’t push me, or I’ll knock you out!”

Tian Guanghan smirked and said nothing more, though inwardly he felt entirely at ease.

The city procuratorate had intervened—what did that mean? It meant his benefactors were exerting their influence, perhaps Xu Yuncai, or even that person.

After all, there were few in Lingyun City capable of directing the city procuratorate.

Yang Dong being taken by the prosecutors was a covert message, a reassurance to Tian Guanghan: Don’t worry, we have people on your side!

See, the one bold enough to announce your double-regulation at city hall, Yang Dong, has already been seized by us.

So Tian Guanghan must hold firm, not say anything to the disciplinary committee, remember this.

That was how Tian Guanghan interpreted it, and indeed, that was the tacit message from above.

Just keep your mouth shut, weigh carefully what words to say and what to withhold.

The disciplinary committee’s vehicle arrived at the designated secret hotel.

After parking, Lu Yike and Hou Donglai escorted Tian Guanghan inside, directly to Room 109, just opposite the room where Yin Tiejun had previously been detained.

“Donglai, keep an eye on him in the room!”

Lu Yike signaled to Hou Donglai and then turned to leave the hotel.

“Jiang Hu, come with me to the disciplinary committee!”

She glanced at Jiang Hu, who was sitting sulking on the steps at the entrance.

“I’m not going!”

Jiang Hu huffed, swinging his arms and sitting on the ground in a fit of anger.

Lu Yike snorted coldly—this stubborn streak again.

“If you don’t listen to me, I’ll introduce a daughter-in-law to your mother!”

Jiang Hu’s face changed drastically; he immediately sprang up and, glaring at Lu Yike, grumbled, “You… that’s too mean.”

He’d come to Lingyun Public Security Bureau to avoid marriage, otherwise he’d have to face his mother’s daily nagging and matchmaking. It drove him crazy.

But now, if Lu Yike introduced a daughter-in-law to his mother, she’d be finding him a wife. Absolutely not.

“So, will you listen to me?”

Lu Yike stared at him, snorting coldly.

“Yes!!”

Jiang Hu gritted his teeth in agreement.

Lu Yike had bullied him since childhood. Even as an adult, she still bullied him. Had he grown up for nothing?

“Typical~”

“I know you’re worried about Yang Dong, but you’re just a junior police officer. Can you rescue Yang Dong?”

Lu Yike spoke sternly.

Jiang Hu kept his face tense, silent, lowering his head.

Of course he couldn’t rescue Yang Dong. The city procuratorate had taken him away—how could he save him?

“Come with me to the city hospital!”

Lu Yike said, gesturing to Jiang Hu.

Hearing this, Jiang Hu looked up in surprise. “Sis, what are we going to the city hospital for?”

“Now you remember to call me ‘sis’? In your heart, I don’t matter as much as someone you’ve only known for a few days, like Yang Dong.”

Lu Yike snorted, a little jealous.

Jiang Hu dared not retort; if he did, Lu Yike would threaten him with matchmaking again.

“The only one who can save Yang Dong is Secretary Yin.”

“If we don’t go to the city hospital to find him, who else?”

Lu Yike sighed, explaining.

Jiang Hu’s face lit up with delight as he realized Yin Tiejun’s position. “Then let’s go, what are we waiting for?”

“If it weren’t for your tantrum, we’d have left already. Is it my fault?”

Lu Yike glared at Jiang Hu and strode toward the car.

“I was wrong, sis, hehe.”

Jiang Hu hurriedly opened the car door for Lu Yike and helped her in.

He got in the driver’s seat and headed for the city hospital.

Twenty minutes later.

Lingyun City People’s Hospital, Gastroenterology Department, high-security ward.

Yin Tiejun’s gastroenteritis had already improved; it was caused by eating too much spicy food, which inflamed his stomach.

But to get out of the disciplinary committee’s hotel, he had to take this risk.

Even if Yang Dong’s suggestion was a bit dubious, he was willing to use it.

Aside from seeking medical attention, there was no other way.

This medical route also provided a way out for both him and the disciplinary committee—a compromise.

Yin Tiejun could refrain from pursuing the disciplinary committee for double-regulating him, and the committee could turn a blind eye to his departure.

Everyone tacitly accepted this arrangement.

The disciplinary committee still assigned two supervisors, but they didn’t enter the room, simply sat outside.

So Yin Tiejun was essentially free to do as he pleased.

At this moment, he sat on the bed, receiving Lu Yike and Jiang Hu.

“It’s no surprise Yang Dong was taken by the city procuratorate.”

Yin Tiejun showed no urgency, even though Jiang Hu described the situation as critical. His expression remained unchanged.

He was already one of the city government’s leaders, a ‘quasi-deputy bureau’ municipal secretary. He had the necessary composure.

“This is the opponent’s move!”

Lu Yike nodded and spoke to Yin Tiejun.

Yin Tiejun offered no response, neither nodding nor shaking his head.

No reaction meant tacit approval.

Lu Yike knew these senior city officials were cautious in everything they did, fearing any slip or flaw that could be seized upon.

But she couldn’t gamble on Yin Tiejun’s true intentions, nor on how important Yang Dong was to him.

If she guessed wrong, Yang Dong would be doomed.

So she raised her head and continued, “Secretary Yin, did you know? Yang Dong was in a car accident!”

Yin Tiejun’s face froze instantly.

Though only for a moment, Lu Yike caught it.

That brief instant was enough to reassure her.

“The housekeeper who accused you of corruption—after Yang Dong found her, he used a diversion tactic, having Comrade Jiang Hu bring housekeeper Yin Xiuying back to the city.”

“While Yang Dong followed Hou Shuangquan, taking the original car and route back to the city.”

“But on the way back, Yang Dong had a car accident.”

“He was rushed to the hospital, this very hospital—the city people’s hospital—but went straight into the ICU.”

“He suffered moderate concussion, shoulder tendon contusion, rib soft tissue injury, fracture of the left forearm, and clavicle contusion.”

“He was unconscious in ICU for over eight hours before waking.”

“I heard Yang Dong scored first in the city civil service exam written test, but was fifth in the interview. Only four were selected, so he wasn’t eligible to pass.”

“You gave him an extra question, he earned your favor, and ranked first, entering the municipal office.”

“In four years, you helped him regularize six months early, promoted him from assistant to officer three years ahead of schedule, and last year you were planning to promote him to deputy section chief, right?”

“For you, it may have been a small effort, but for Yang Dong, it was a tremendous kindness.”

“So I understand why he was so anxious during your troubles, desperate to solve the case, even risking himself.”

“Secretary Yin, there are things Yang Dong may be too embarrassed to say, or simply cannot tell you.”

“But I, Lu Yike, have to say it, objectively and fairly!”

“Group Leader Yang’s feelings for you… may even surpass those for his own father.”

“The disciplinary committee has business to attend to, and must interrogate Tian Guanghan, so Secretary, Jiang Hu and I will take our leave.”

Lu Yike stopped there; some things only needed to be hinted at.

She stood, pulling the still dazed Jiang Hu, and exited.

The two vanished from the ward.

Yin Tiejun’s face finally relaxed; his eyes grew red, a little misty.

“Oh, Yang Dong, you foolish boy!”

Yin Tiejun’s expression quickly turned serious. He took out his phone, opened his contacts, found a number, and dialed.

“Old Qi, your city procuratorate has gone too far!”

He had made his move!
