Volume One, Chapter 11: Fortune-Telling for a Dog
The dog was a Siberian Husky, black and white, with striking blue eyes—quite a beautiful creature. It lay lazily in its bed, looking as though it were ill.
“Streamer, could you help me figure out what’s wrong with my Dongdong?” A clear, pure voice came through the phone. Evidently, Dongdong was the Husky’s name.
momo: [Brother Four Directions, you’re really something, asking for a fortune reading for your dog! Aren’t you making things hard for the streamer?]
Gentle Breeze: [If the streamer can truly read a dog’s fortune, I’ll livestream myself eating dung while standing on my head.]
Idle Salted Fish: [Beauty, why not switch to singing or dancing? Stop pretending; fortune-telling just isn’t for you.]
Mimi: [I’m actually curious how she’ll pull this off. If her reading is accurate, I’ll send you a fairy tale castle.]
Su Tong frowned slightly. Her first reaction was that this person was here to cause trouble. But the urgency in the caller’s voice didn’t sound feigned.
Given that he had already sent her a fairy tale castle, Su Tong decided to respond kindly. “Mr. Four Directions, have you taken Dongdong to see a vet?”
Four Directions: [I’ve been to several vets. They all say Dongdong isn’t sick. But he used to be so lively, needing at least two hours of play outdoors every day. Lately, he’s barely eating, won’t move around, just lies in his bed all day. He ignores me when I try to play with him. If I had any other options, I wouldn’t trouble you with fortune-telling. I just really want Dongdong to get better. I’m not trying to make things difficult for you.]
Su Tong’s spiritual intuition was keen. She could sense the sincerity in his words—this wasn’t someone trying to trip her up. Still, she felt at a loss. She’d never given a fortune reading for a dog.
Just as she was about to refuse, a comment on the screen caught her attention.
Biggest Beibei Fan: [Doesn’t anyone else think this Four Directions guy sounds just like superstar Su Beibei?]
Biggest Beibei Fan shared the stream.
Soon, a huge crowd flooded into Su Tong’s livestream room.
Su Tong’s mind raced. She guided Four Directions to interact. “Mr. Four Directions, can you interact with Dongdong a bit? Let me see how he responds.”
Four Directions called Dongdong’s name, invited him to eat, and tried to play with him. Dongdong remained motionless in his bed.
From the look on Dongdong’s dog face, Su Tong could even see an expression of utter despair.
Su Tong: “?!”
At that moment, the chat exploded.
momo: [It really does sound like Su Beibei!]
Biggest Beibei Fan: [I told you, it’s exactly the same voice as Su Beibei!]
My Little Beibei: [I remember hearing Su Beibei has a Husky, too.]
Su Tong searched online and found Su Beibei’s recent photos. His face was a perfect blend of delicate features and quiet strength; his eyes, black and white, seemed to speak; his nose was refined, his lips thin and clearly shaped. He exuded both the freshness of youth and a cool, aristocratic aura. In short, his face foretold a life of prosperity—whether singing or acting, he was destined for stardom.
At the same time, Su Tong confirmed that the person calling in as Four Directions was indeed Su Beibei.
However, the photos he’d posted recently seemed a bit odd. Su Tong respected everyone’s personal orientation, but there were still things she wanted to clarify. After all, a dramatic change in a dog’s temperament might have its reasons.
She asked, “Mr. Four Directions, do you live alone?”
Four Directions: [I’ve always lived alone. But I have three dogs.]
Su Tong: “?”
That didn’t match what she saw.
Her gaze returned to Dongdong, and suddenly, a thought struck her. She asked again, “When did Dongdong’s condition start?”
Four Directions: [A month ago.]
Su Tong: “Did anything special happen at that time?”
Four Directions: [Now that you mention it, I remember. I took Dongdong for vaccinations that day, and on our way home, we witnessed a car accident. After that, Dongdong stopped being lively.]
Su Tong searched for more of Su Beibei’s recent photos and noticed that his appearance had also changed about a month ago. His face showed signs of someone recently living with a man—a close relationship.
With this, Su Tong began to understand.
With a strange expression and a curious tone, she said, “Mr. Four Directions, Dongdong is no longer the same as before. There’s a human soul inside his body now, likely the victim from that accident you encountered.”
As soon as she spoke, Dongdong suddenly stood up and barked at the screen. Tears streamed down his canine face, making everyone’s heart ache.
momo: [Whoa, look at that reaction! Did the streamer get it right?]
Seven Nights: [Even novels wouldn’t dare write this.]
Wind-Chasing Candy: [The world’s become unrecognizable.]
Gentle Breeze: [But dogs can’t talk—how can we be sure she’s right? I still think she’s a fraud.]
Idle Salted Fish: [This must be scripted.]
Biggest Beibei Fan: [Beibei is a top celebrity, too busy for scripts with some small-time streamer.]
Su Beibei was so shocked he trembled all over.
He was right beside Dongdong and could clearly feel the surge of mixed emotions—both joy and sorrow—emanating from Dongdong after Su Tong spoke. It was nothing a dog should feel; it was strikingly human.
He asked carefully, “Streamer, what should I do now? How can I get my Dongdong back?”
Now that the cause had been found, the solution was simple.
Su Tong smiled confidently. “I’ll give you two talismans. One is a Soul-Capturing Talisman to draw the man’s soul out of Dongdong’s body. The other is a Gate-Opening Talisman to send the soul on to reincarnation.
Since you’re my first customer, I’ll give you a discount—both talismans together for fifty thousand yuan.”
She popped a shopping link onto the screen.
Idle Salted Fish: [She already conned him out of a fairy tale castle, now she wants another fifty thousand? Shameless.]
Gentle Breeze: [With a face that pretty, why not work in showbiz? Why scam people like this—aren’t you afraid of karma?]
Su Tong ignored the comments and continued, “Of course, I can also come in person, but that’s another price.”
For some reason, Su Beibei felt an inexplicable trust in Su Tong.
He paid at once, and sent another fairy tale castle.
Seeing the castle effect on the screen, Su Tong’s face broke into a bright smile.
“Three readings a day—two left. Anyone else want a fortune?”
Gentle Breeze: [Pretty sure she’s a fraud. Anyone who buys is a fool. I’m out.]
Gentle Breeze exited the stream.
Idle Salted Fish left as well.
...
The fans who’d come for Su Beibei saw he’d gone offline and left too.
Su Tong’s livestream was nearly empty now.
But she was in no rush. She sipped her tea, nibbled snacks, and ended the stream promptly at ten o’clock.
