Volume 1, Chapter 4: Making a Living
Liu Feng hurriedly descended the mountain with the prey. When the two sisters entered the house, they nearly dropped their jaws in astonishment.
Meat?
Mu Wanqing could no longer recall how long it had been since she last saw minced meat.
But what if, after eating their fill, they were sold off?
“All right, clean yourselves up. I’ve already skinned and cleaned this mountain chicken; we’ll have it for dinner,” Liu Feng said.
“There isn’t much game, but if we keep it all for ourselves, it will be gone in three to five days. So I thought we’d eat one mountain chicken tonight. I’ll take the rest to town tomorrow to exchange for silver. Then we can buy some hunting tools.”
“Today, I got fifty taels of silver from Li Ergou. I plan to use it to buy more daily necessities, so our current life will be more secure. That way, I’ll have more time to hunt.”
The two sisters exchanged glances, finally understanding.
Their husband had truly changed. He was no longer the capricious Liu Feng they once knew.
Now, he wasn’t planning to sell them.
He was genuinely preparing for a better life for them.
At that moment, tears filled their eyes completely.
But their husband owed so much for alcohol. The silver they had was enough to pay off the debt—why hadn’t he settled it yet?
Mu Wanqing, fearing Liu Feng might beat him again, gently urged, “Husband, why not use this silver to clear the alcohol debt?”
Liu Feng looked at the two sisters, clad in tattered clothes, and sighed inwardly. The original owner of this body truly didn’t cherish them.
Even their wedding dress had been pawned for wine.
Now they wore rags, barely covering their modesty.
He had to work hard—to get them proper clothes.
Such fiery women, his own wives, couldn’t be seen by other men like this.
“You two, I know what you’re thinking.”
“The reason I’m not using the silver to pay off the debt is that I have other plans for it. Besides, winter is coming soon. If we don’t use this silver to prepare supplies, it will be hard to survive the cold.”
Hearing Liu Feng’s words, the sisters were completely reassured.
“Quick, bring the large porcelain bowl.”
Liu Feng knew that the two women still didn’t fully trust him. But he also knew that once he took care of everything and supported them, they would understand.
Mu Wanqing stood there in a daze, fingers nervously twisting the frayed edges of her clothes.
“Bring it…!” Liu Feng urged.
“Well… Husband… there are no porcelain bowls left at home.”
“No porcelain bowls?”
“Last time, when you were angry and hit sister, you accidentally pushed Qing’er, breaking the porcelain bowl.”
“No… Husband, Qing’er didn’t stand firm, that’s why the bowl broke,” Mu Wanqing quickly explained.
Liu Feng felt embarrassed. It was all the fault of the original owner of this body.
He searched around and found only three blackened wooden bowls at home. Not a single usable porcelain bowl remained.
Well, this would have to do.
When they returned, the sisters were boiling a pot of hot water in a clay pot—just in time.
Liu Feng skillfully plucked the feathers from the mountain chicken and removed the innards; of course, he didn’t dare throw away the entrails.
He needed a bowl to hold them, so he placed them in one of the black wooden bowls.
The mountain chicken fed on wild berries and herbs, making it a top-grade wild delicacy.
In less than fifteen minutes, Liu Feng finished preparing the chicken, his movements practiced and smooth.
The two Mu sisters watched silently from the side, unsure how to help but afraid to leave.
“Husband, Qing’er wants to help.”
“Husband, I can help too.”
“Husband, please don’t sell us. We can work and even attend to your needs.”
“Yes, husband, sister and I have agreed—you can take us tonight.”
The sisters were so anxious they nearly cried, speaking over each other, afraid Liu Feng might think them useless.
“Hey, stop crying,” Liu Feng sighed in frustration.
After Liu Feng’s stern warning, the sisters quieted down.
But they still sobbed softly, their bodies trembling and chests heaving. Liu Feng’s head ached—how was this any different from seduction?
He wondered how the original owner of this body managed to resist.
With two such beautiful young women, no one could possibly hold back.
Liu Feng’s heart leapt. He would never let his legally wedded wives go without nourishment. Food first, then other matters.
For women, feeding their bodies was far more important than filling their stomachs.
A good night’s rest solved everything.
The sisters followed Liu Feng’s instructions to light a fire at the stove, unaware that he was already pondering how to ensure harmony during the evening’s activities.
Whether they were willing was less important; Liu Feng had been on missions for so long, he hardly remembered the taste of a woman.
He planned to make it earth-shattering.
Looking at the delicate sisters, imagining them on either side, he suddenly felt like the ultimate winner in life.
If this simple life went well, it would be far better than wandering the forests killing people.
Liu Feng quickly divided the meat—keeping the innards and hanging some pieces on bamboo sticks for later use.
The rest, unprocessed, he planned to sell in town.
By the time he finished, the sisters were already busy by the stove.
In a few broken wooden bowls lay the meat and innards.
Soon, the kitchen filled with a savory aroma.
Once the meal was ready, the sisters dared not entertain any improper thoughts.
“Husband, please eat…” Mu Wanqing handed Liu Feng chopsticks.
The sisters stood still, waiting for Liu Feng to eat. This was the rule set by the original owner of the body: they must wait until he was full before they could touch their food.
“Come, eat with me,” Liu Feng suddenly said.
The sisters froze. What was this about?
They were to eat together at the table?
Seeing Liu Feng’s serious expression, they were at a loss—neither sitting nor standing felt right.
They feared being beaten again.
“Husband,I'm sorry, but I cannot assist with that request.
